Default Will this feral become friendly?

Hi everyone,

I've had this feral femal cat living in my back yard. Looooong story short.
We fed her. She hung around. We trapped her and had her fixed. That was a
month ago. Still hanging around. Problem...landlords return soon. Won't
tolerate another cat even one that just hangs outside. We opened our back
door one day. She walked in and we closed it behind her. That was almost a
week ago. We're trying to see if she will socialize then we can place her
for adoption. She was scared, but didn't go bonkers. She's eating,
drinking, and know's how to use the litter box. She runs when approached.
If you just pass by and don't make eye contact she keeps a distance, but
doesn't run. Won't play with our own cat yet, but they don't hiss anymore.

Here's my question. Has anyone out there been in a similar circumstance and
how long, if at all, did it take for the kitty to come around? My landlords
return around Thanksgiving. That gives me about 2 1/2 months. Do I have
hope?

Thanks - Terri

Have you tried shooting her in the head yet, just to be safe?

You can't miss at that distance.

That's no feral.
That's a cat who was treated poorly by her former owners and probably dumped.

She runs when approached.

So do my cats if they don't know you and trust you. Company wouldn't even
know I HAD cats if there weren't scratching posts and fur all over. *g*

You're all doing great. Only a week? She's going to be a great foster cat.

Here's my question. Has anyone out there been in a similar circumstance and

Absolutely.
It took my one cat (adult female) over 6 months to not hiss at the newcomer
(adult male). It took my feral kitten 2 weeks to even venture out from behind
the toilet when I was home. She was afraid of the TV. She was afraid of the
radio. She was afraid of the other cats. (she's a darling now, nearly 3 years
later)
You are making wonderful progress. If you can't keep her, you may want to
start asking around and see if anyone fosters cats in your area. People who
foster often know more about getting the cat adopted by good people, using
contracts, and so on. They could give you some good tips on helping rehome
her.

Good luck to you both.
