The "new" Advantage
I posted this to rpch+b the other day, to no response (which I don't
understand, since this is a health question). So if anyone can help me here, please share what you know or have experienced. --------------------------------------------------------------- The last time I bought Advantage (last month), I noticed it was considerably more expensive. The clerk at the pet food store told me that the company had changed the formula by adding a few things to it, so that it's more like Frontline (or Revolution? can't remember which - yes, I know they're different). Has anyone used Advantage with the new formula? Good results? Anyone experience (or hear about) adverse reactions in cats who had previously been fine with Advantage? It's getting to be time for my cats to get their monthly treatment, but I'm a little apprehensive about it because I'll be giving them something they've never had before. I'd appreciate information or advice if anyone would like to give some. Thanks, Joyce -- "Bacteria, with a few more bells and whistles." -- Bonnie Bassler, describing human beings |

I purchase the biggest dog size and simply take the appropriate .5 or .9 CC dose (for small or large cats) with a syringe to save a bunch of $$. I noticed it was now called "Advantage II". The clerk asserted that they've modified the ingredients to make the stuff more water-resistant, although there is still room for improvement. I hope I don't find the cats casters-up after using the newer formulation. I asked this question on a cat-health email list, and got a bunch of self-righteous and sarcastic responses about how I'm putting poison on my cat. Listen, I know neurotoxins aren't great, but neither are fleas. Give me a workable alternative and I'd be game to try it out. But these folks were more interested in lecturing me about what I'm doing wrong than in pointing me in a better direction. The only reason I posted there was that I haven't gotten much response here or on rpch+b. I guess most people here don't use Advantage? Joyce We use Advantage, just as Art does - buying the large dog size and using a syringe to measure out the correct doses for our cats. We've been using this for well over a year and no harm has come of it. Since I am house bound, and fleas seem to find me more edible than the cats, it is essential that we keep the house flea-free. -- Hugs, CatNipped See all our masters at: http://www.PossiblePlaces.com/CatNipped See the RPCA FAQ site, created by "Yowie", maintained by Mark Edwards, at: http://www.professional-geek.net/rpcablog/ Email: L(dot)T(dot)Crews(at)comcast(dot)net |

My mistake, I just asked Ben and he said we *don't* use Advantage Plus, we use the plain Advantage and he said in the plain Advantage there is no difference between the dog and cat formula. I haven't looked up the formula, but I'm assuming he's right since we've used it for over a year without any bad experiences.
