Avoid tomato sauce for kitty !

Many cat owners give occasional people food to cats as either a regular meal
or occasional treat.

Beware of giving a cat canned fish in tomato sauce or chicken cacciatore!

Tomato contains a toxic alkaloid named solanine that humans can tolerate in
much higher portions/concentrations than are found in any ordinary human
food. However, cats have a far lower tolerance for solanine. Traces of
solanine, as found in just a 100g portion of cherry tomatoes, can be fatal
to a cat!

Years ago I had a longhaired white cat named Ariel who would
periodically frighten me by appearing with an orange face -- until I
twigged to the fact that once again he'd been helping me clean out the
pot I cooked the spaghetti sauce in.

My current kitties know not the joy of marinara because nowadays I know
about onions and cats.

LOL, but he must have looked very cute. This reminds me of one time my cat
Mickey appeared with a bloody mouth. I totally panicked and immediately made
an appointment with the vet to bring him in. But then I found a chewed up
vitamin capsule containing betacarotene on the floor. Sure enough that is what
Mickey had gotten into. I was a bit embarrassed to call the vet back and tell
them nevermind, MIckey is not bleeding.
