Clingy, lovey, clingy, lovey (long)
I'm *not* complaining, I love it! Granted, Persia has always been a
love-bug. But since I got her back from the vet on 6/25 after her bladder surgery (and my trip out of town), she's been especially clingy and lovey. She's been waking me up promptly at 6 AM every morning (when did she learn to tell time?) First with a little soft tap on the side, then when I roll over and pat her I'm getting more and more of those sweet little love bites. Head butt against my hand, purr, gentle bite on the hand or arm. Headbutt, louder PURRRRRR, gentle bite. (I suspect this could go on for hours if I didn't eventually get out of bed!) When I'm in front of my computer, she's usually oblivious. But not lately. Now, she's reaching up, tap tap - hey you, pick me up; I want to sit in your lap. She's even taken to just leaping up in my lap when I'm sitting here, which I assure you she did not used to do. Persia used to be more restrained, rather *regal* if you will. Now it seems she simply cannot get enough of me. Last night, after "pilling" her, you'd think she'd have run off in indignation. (It has to be a blow to the ego to have someone force your mouth open and shove a pill down your throat, and to then gently "blow" on your nose!) But no, she stayed in my lap, started purring and gave me a love bite. (I love it when she does that!) I realize all cats are different. But I have to wonder if this is a result of the surgery or is the timing just coincidental? Is it just some sort of natural progression as she gets older? (We guess she's 5 or 6 years old.) I know she's feeling much better (you would be too if you no longer had a cyst and stones irritating your bladder and making you ill!) I just had another thought. Despite my taking a number of trips this year, the last one being the longest separation to date (7 days), I'm now pretty much at home all the time. Being unemployed means she has more time to hang out with and rule me. Maybe that's all it is! NOTE: My long lost actually suggested I *not* go back to work, at least not for a while. We are still trying to work out the logistics of our next trip. After wrapping up the art show in the Cleveland, OH area yesterday, he's heading off today to see his aging, ailing mother. Gretchen is 87 and (his words) a real bitch. After that he goes to a show in Syracuse, NY at the end of the month; we are contemplating setting our coordinates so I can be with him at that show. Which leads to another thought: perhaps Persia is anticipating I'm anticipating going on another trip. Perhaps she's just getting in as much "Jill Time" as she can before I jet off to yet another destination and for a week. Cats. Go figure Jill |

Go figure Jill Wouldn't you feel better after having a cyst removed from your bladder even if you had your fur shaved in the process? I think that her real nature is coming out now that she is not bothered by health problems. Or maybe she is just thanking you for taking very good care of her. Enjoy it while it lasts. My first cat, Figaro used to be a real lap cat until he went to TED for the "big snip". He has not forgiven me yet. It was a big change in him. He used to be this lap fungus. After he got back from the vet he did not want to have anything to do with me. Doesn't sit on my lap anymore . |
