Good rates come from good credit, and good credit has everything to do
with paying the minimums.

Financial institutions will happily lend you enough money that you
will never pay it off. As long as you keep paying your minimums, they
will sit back and collect the interest. I had excellent credit while
in debt up to my ears.

Heh, don't count on it. I still convert Euros into Finnish Marks to
find out what stuff *really* costs, and we joined in... ummmm... 2002?

I sometimes tease my older relatives by converting prices to, pounds,
shillings and pence, we converted to the decimal system in 1971. My mother
says, "I wish you wouldn't do that" so I imediately convert the price to
Euros and get told "that's even worse". I know, I can be evil at times, I

I still wonder if some reluctance is due to a desire to continue
spending pennies, rather than euronating.

You know.. this happens to me too, even in foreign countries...
Recently, in an airport a lady came up to me and started speaking to me
.... in Spanish.. she was totally confident that I would understan her..
fortunately I did more or less... My husband stood there , shaking his
head..." "How did she know that you could help her ???" I just shook
my head, but this started me thinking about how many times thi has
happened in one form or another... Just mudt have a face the APPEARS
as if I know something...LOL

It occurs to me there are worse things in the world than appearing
approachable, friendly, and helpful ...

Maybe it's a gift (and like most gifts, one you feel like returning
sometimes).

My family made a trip to Europe in 1974. As we were climbing the
stairs from a London tube (subway) station, an English woman looked
over at my mother and said, "Just look at all the litter! What will
tourists think when they see it?". My mother silently nodded her
head, knowing that, if she said anything, her accent would show that
she was one of the tourists in question.
