Debbie was uncomfortable with Coco not eating or drinking so she wanted
to take him back. As soon as she appeared, Coco seemed relieved and did
eat a little. I will miss him but he is 14 years old and will be much
happier in his old home. Tiger seems happier now too.

You gave up too soon.

What's done is done. Criticism isn't going to make him feel any better.

It's not critism.

So that everybody understands - I would have been willing to wait a few
more days. Coco was Debbie's cat and was "given" to me on condition
that everything worked out okay. She was concerned that it would not be
good for a 14 year old cat to go without food or water for too long.
She wanted to bring him back home. As soon as he got home he ate up a
storm. I'll miss him but this was Debbie's call.

I appreciate you trying to integrate Coco with Tiger. Thank you. I'm
glad she was able to take him back. It may have only taken a little
more time but yes, at that age, not eating for two days is something to
be concerned about.

Inappropriate comment, Tweed.

Sounded rather chastising to me.

I understand. I know you can get attached to them very quickly. Purrs for
the right companion for Tiger to be found.

Default Coco is here Day 2

So far Coco hasn't eaten anything. There haven't been any fights with
Tiger - just some stareing and spitting. I brought Coco onto my bed
last night but he left after a little while. He got on my lap this
morning and nuzzled my hand. If he doesn't eat soon I may have to bring
him back.

Is there a way to keep them in separate rooms for a while? Maybe it would
be easier for Tiger if he didn't have to deal with another cat all at once?

I agree with other posters that he's probably just nervous and can't eat
yet (though, are you sure he's not chomping on some when you're not there?).
It's too early to worry about it, though - you've only had him for a day!

Or as I've mentioned in another thread, maybe Tiger doesn't need another
companion. He might be just fine without another kitty, regardless of age.

I've mentioned my neighbor's cats many times over the years. Fedders
went to the RB in February. She first said Schwartzie didn't seem to
miss him. Then later she said his behaviour did change a little. I
think she used the word "clingy". I do think he knows Fedders is gone.
But when I really I think about it, Schwartzie is enjoying now being
the only cat there to get *all* of her full-time attention.
