Default Cat in Heat-Please Help

I took on a cat as a sort of charity case to save it from the pound and
the previous owner "forgot" to tell me she wasn't spayed.
Great.
I going to take her in as soon as possible for the surgery but in the
meanwhile she meows LOUDLY all night long and I live in a studio
apartment and CANNOT sleep all night.
Any advice on how to get her to chill out till I take her in? This
sucks. I need help.

Default Cat in Heat-Please Help

The only way to get a cat in heat to stop announcing her condition is to
have her bred (and she'll keep on for a few days anyway). Since that's
not really a desirable option, you'll have to (1) suffer through it, (2)
do as another poster suggested and board her until she's out of heat and
can be spayed (if the boarding facility will take her in that condition,
which they may not), or (3) see if your vet will spay her now ... they
often don't want to, as being in heat makes for a more complicated
surgery, but you could ask. (By now it may all be moot anyway --
usually heats don't last for more than a few days or a week or so.)
Probably the best thing is suck it up and suffer through it -- and hope
your neighbors don't come after you. :-) --Sherry
