Black cat blackout for Halloween
Be sure to keep your black cats inside, as Halloween is
days away. Come to think of it, keep all cats inside at all times. |

Halloween is a very bad time to be a cat. :-( I hear this a lot, but is it true? I know there are a lot of crazy, cruel people out there, but I just wonder if there are any statistics that show that Halloween is any worse for cats, black ones in particular, than any other date in the year. This is not a rhetorical question, by the way - I really don't know. My rescue group's next mobile adoptions is Saturday, Nov. 1. I have two black foster kittens - should I wait another week to bring them, or do you think they'll be safe by Nov. 1? In any case, I keep all my cats inside, except for Smudge who goes out on a leash (she will be kept inside on Friday). Joyce |

This is not a rhetorical question, by the way - I really don't know. This is just anecdotal from my own experience, but no, I have never known a cat to be the victim of Halloween abuse specifically on the 31st.The only animal I have known personally to suffer abuse on that night was a Collie. I'm sure cases do exist though. I *don't* think they are "Satan worshippers" like the media is so fond of feeding us. I think tthey're just mean teenager wanna-bes. But that's just me But mostly what I was referring to was the whole Halloween thing. Increased traffic. Little goblins running around shrieking alone is enough to scare a cat to death. We're still in a town old-fashioned enough that Halloween is a full-scale invasion of children. Even in the house, I used to lock them up in the bedroom when I lived in town. The doorbell constantly ringing and loud little people scared them, and I was afraid one would run out when the door was opened. Sherry |
