Joy

I don't think any of us here could have taken him back. I really don't
understand why someone would take a cat with the expectation that they

are
never going to get sick or need to have money spent on them (he said he
didn't want to pay the vet the $300 she asked for testing and

treatment!).

It's the Orange County Animal Care Center (714) 935-6943
The ID # for him is: P0710740

Just a note: since being returned, his new ID # is A0700875. The
one above is the one Philip had for him when he adopted him. And
Joy, you are an angel. If you know anyone who will take him, I will
pay his adoption fee. He is an active, fiesty, lovely boy. Email me if '
you want a photo of him. He weighs 14 lbs and has been neutered and
had all his shots. I did not tell the shelter that I will pay his fees
because
I was afraid someone would take him because he is "free" and not because
they really want him.

Anyway, if the worst happens, it is lovely to know that you would go
and get him and keep him safe temporarily. Thank you, from the bottom
of my heart.

I have to say that I'm tied up all this weekend. However, after that, I
should be able to do it. I will need to know if it's necessary, and where
the shelter is. I haven't spoken to him yet, but there's a chance my son
might take him. He lost a cat several months ago and hasn't been able to
bring himself to get another yet.

Joy

I have to say Joy, we saw pictures of this guy and he is *gorgeous*. Dark
red tabby.

We are sending purrs and gentle headbutts to the orange-stripey cat (14
lbs doesn't sound like a kitten) and litterbox offerings to the man
responsible for returning the poor little guy.

Here's the story...

In "the other" cat group, rpch, there's a mean old guy (an @$$hole) who
adopted a precious little orange-stripey kitten. The kitten (the guy named
him Conan) developed an upper respiratory tract infection and the guy gave
him just 10 days to get well or back he would go to the high-kill shelter he
was "purchased" from. Well, yesterday was the 10th day and the poor little
kitty got sent back to the shelter for a "replacement" kitten (who, if he
knows what's good for him, will never get sick!).

Conan's story has broken the hearts of some of the nice people there and
they're trying to put together a rescue. They contacted the shelter and the
shelter staff said the kitten was recovering nicely and would be put back on
the adoption list this weekend. What's worrying is that he won't be adopted
right away and might be euthanized before anyone in the group can arrange
his adoption and transportation ("Mary" has offered to pay for his adoption
and travel expenses, (and others have offered to contribute to a PayPal
account for him), and she would like to take him if she can arrange it).

What's needed is just to know if there is someone close to the shelter who
could get him if need be in a hurry until any arrangements can be made for
his forever home.

Hugs,

CatNipped

Phillip--the wiz guy medically--returned the cat? Is this the one that was
the jumper?

How do you transport a cat?

Sincerely,
Jen

Philip is not the same as Phil P. Phil P. is the one with the knowledge of
things medical.

Thanks, Julie! No, he is not a kitten, he is two years old!

Um, I'm sorry, but Orange County is NOT "around LA". Depending on the
location of the shelter - and Orange County covers a lot of territory, it is
probably 100 miles or more from my home. Surely there must be someone
closer who could take him temporarily.

Purrs the poor little thing finds his foreverhome with some who cares,
and understands cats, like people, will get sick sometimes and need
medical care.

I could make it to Orange County to pick up kitty, but I wouldn't be
able to keep kitty for any length of time - the 6 I'v ecurrently got
have worked out a mostly workable truce, but another would most
definitely upset the peace. If there was someone within 100 miles or so
who could foster the kitty I could provide transportation.

Dan--this is terrific to know, thank you. I will pay his adoption fee
directly to
the shelter, I have already worked that out. He is up for adoption now, over
his cold, and was re-evaluated by the vet last Saturday and given until the
29th of June before he will be re-evaluated again. (They are loathe to
actually say it, but they are a "kill" shelter.) The location in Orange
County
is Santa Ana. (At least that is what the caller ID says.) Here is the number
I
have been using: (714) 935-6943. This is a large operation with room for
over
300 cats. Here is the web site: http://www.ocpetinfo.com/ It could be that
their
facilities are spread out over the county.

If it would be okay for me to email you and let you know if I need
you to rescue him from the shelter (in the event that he is to be
euthanized) please let me know. As I said his adoption fee will
be paid (no matter who adopts him) and I would happily supply
some cash for food, gas, whatever it takes for you to pick him up.
He is a big, 14-lb beautiful and spirited orange tabby, short-haired,
with that gorgeous Bengal-ish bullseye pattern on is side. He is
a high jumper and a very friendly boy. If you have any friends who
are great cat people and might want him, he has had all his shots
and been neutered, and his adoption fee is paid. He is also proved
to be a "people cat!"

Anyway, I am Mary Smith at The shelter
has my accountant's contact information so that even if I am not
available they can call her in the event that someone wants to
adopt him and she will do an electronic funds transfer directly
to the shelter over the phone.

Let me know if you are available in case of emergency. I
really appreciate your reply.
