wrote: Steve, aren't you the guy who carries cat food around in a truck and feeds ferals? If so, from now on you can do it in Rocky's memory. Dedicate those feedings to him and remember him fondly each time, and I'll bet that before long, he will return in the form of another kitty that can't resist you. IIRC, it's Dan M who carries food and feeds strays while he's making deliveries. I do feed the neighborhood kitties. When I first moved here, about 7 years ago, there was a small colony of ferals living in/under a couple vacant houses, across the allwy and down a ways. Glad to report that I think the now the feral colony has just about disappeared. Part of the reason the colony is gone is that the city forced to owners of the houses to either rennovate or tear down the run down houses. I see a couple youngsters, must have been born last spring, that I don't know where they live. But the rest of the regulars at my outside food bowl have homes. Three of us fed the colony and worked on getting them neutered, catching any kittens and trying to find them homes. When we started out we were doing it independently, not the others were doing anything. We didn't realise we were all feding them until I almost moved last year and went around to see of any of the neighbors would feed them if I bought the food. I can't really take much credit, since all I did was put out food. The other two neigbors had already been looking after the colony for quite a while before I moved in. This was the colony that Rocky came from. The neighbor across the street is the one who did most of the work, starting about ten years ago. Not long ago he adopted out another mama and (weaned) kittens he had found somewhere. He's works with his adult son and grandsons rehabing old houses. When they find strays at empty houses, he fosters them and then adopts them out. A real animal lover, he has three cats, three dogs, chickens, turkeys, and even budgys. Writing this, I think I'd better ask about fish, since it seems he has everything else. BTW, he's the one who hooked me up with that barn apartment I might move in to. Still no news on whether that mopve will ever happen. -- Steve Touchstone, faithful servant of Sammy, Little Bit and Rocky (RB) [remove Junk for email] Home Page: http://www.sirinet.net/~stouchst/index.html Cat Pix: http://www.sirinet.net/~stouchst/animals.html |
