I don't know if he asked too much from her or if she just couldn't
stand running behind that big brown horse. Only he can know for sure
and I bet he feels horrible, either way. Men do not become jockeys who
are indifferent to great horses.

Thoroughbreds were bred from animals that already loved to run and
race, Arabians and other "hot-blooded" breeds, and they don't like
being behind other horses. She was a huge filly and it is very likely
that trying to stop was what was so hard on her forelegs.

I stopped betting on horses long ago, I would rather bet on whether my
cards are good or I can get the other guy to fold, but a good race is
still thrilling to watch.

It just makes me sick when they start blaming someone. That horse would
have run on his knees the last 20 seconds of the race to get in front of
Brown. They just have to know that is the way it is. No jockey would ask
that of a horse. It would be the end of his racing. People can b e so
stupid sometimes. You are right though, a good race is a thrill to watch.
They just need to breed for more leg of the horse to hold all that muscle.
