Default First snow for 3 kitties

We have more than a dusting of snow for the first time in three years. Billy
and Lily are experiencing "deep" snow for the first time. For Beatrice this
is the very first snow of any depth.

The actual snowfall was only about 3" but there are drifts much deeper than
this. Snow is old news to the older cats - Baby Eyes, Tommy, Eli and Abelard
(who wants nothing to do with it) - who are not impressed. Billy likes it
most, he's been in and out more times than I can count today, and Beatrice
is beyond fascinated. Lily's hiding out in the back bedroom but she did
check the white stuff out several times.

I've been trying to thaw the pipes, having neglected to leave the water
running last night. I've poured gallons and gallons of hot water over the
exposed portion (which is only about two feet in length) and wrapped them in
hot towels several times, all to no avail. I think it must have frozen under
the ground.

The outdoor frost-free spigot is working which means the heat tape on the
tank and pipes in the well house is doing its job, and I can get drinking
water without having to travel beyond the front yard, but I can't have a
bath, which I need desperately. Guess I'll have to wait until the next time
I take a load to the house in town.

Sigh.... I need and want a hot bath right *now*.... It is soooo cold in the
house even with the heater all the way up. I'm wearing two sweaters, a down
coat, wool socks, insulated boots and a wool hat. This frigid spell is
predicted to continue until Tuesday or Wednesday.

I'll try to get some pics of the kitties' fun. Been having trouble getting
digital camera installed on this PC but will try to post a few pics later on
if I can.

I'm such a dummy! I forgot that I had applied heat tape on that frozen
section of pipe and unplugged it last spring. Plugged it back in, wrapped
the pipe with a muffler, and the water came back on a few hours later.

The kits are all snuggled around the heater with me. Temp will be dropping
into single-digits tonight and possibly tomorrow night as well.

Glad you did remember. Hypothermia will help you forget stuff like that.
(So will just plain being human)

Here's to not too cold nights and warm running water.
