Mike,
If a vet cannot find a problem, you must not allow them to give an
antibiotic. There is no reason for it and giving it when there is no
diagnosis is irresponsible and ads to the growing problem of the
development of antibiotic resistance. More importantly, I fear this
vet gave your cat a Convenia shot. This is a very dangerous drug that
is ONLY indicated for skin infections and it does not eave the system
for at least 62 days, so if your cat has a reaction you have no way of
getting this drug out of the body and he damage goes on and on and on.
If you have read the H ad B newsgroup, you may have seen the
discussion about the cat that died from a reaction to Convenia. NEVER
EVER allow a vet to give this shot, and if this is what was given,
watch your cat closely for the next few months as Convenia can cause
severe anemia, skin necrosis, and many other horrible things including
death. My clinic will not use this drug.

The antibiotic shot was amoxicillin. Amber ate a good supper last night
but didn't want any breakfast this morning. Maybe she is not a morning
person any more. If she doesn't eat supper tonight she will go back to
the vet tomorrow for blood work.

I'm glad to hear that the shot wasn't Convenia, but also am equally
frustrated that this vet gave an antibiotic shot at all, especially
considering the revelation that there was no bloodwork done. The
antibiotic will skew the results of a CBC, and I don't understand why
this vet would not have done bloodwork in the first place. That's
standard operating procedure when you have a cat that is having eating
issues and a physical exam shows nothing. Did they thoroughy check her
mouth for any ulcers or dental issues? Having to make a second trip
(not fair to you or Amber) and incur the cost of another office visit
(not fair to you) is unnecessary when this coud have been taken care
of at the initial visit.

Another thing you should consider is giving your cats a variety of
foods. IIRC you only feed chicken Wellness. That could be a problem,
as cats can and do get bored with eating the same food day in and day
out. In a natural environment they would have a large variety of
things to eat. You could certainly add the turkey and beef/chicken
wellness to the rotation, and also any flavors of Innova EVO 95. All
of these foods, like the chicken you now feed, are grain free.

Amber ate a good supper last night (Wednesday) and this morning ate some
breakfast. She can walk on the carpet now without catching. To answer
Catlady, she had a blood panel last November. The vet suggested that if
she didn't improve that another one would be a good idea.
