I think I am a slot machine
Chloe is our very old, nearly toothless and rather frail long-haired
lilac tortie. She's like a dust bunny with a purr. She's spent most of her life avoiding humans as far as possible, though she's always got on fine with other cats. But in the last two years she's been trying to make up for it. As soon as I lie down she climbs onto my chest and adopts her favourite position, looking looking me in the eye from a few inches away, purring and getting scritched and stroked while occasionally licking my fingers. She has now added a new element to this. As soon as I let up on the scritching or stroking, I am reminded of unfinished business when she gently bops me on the face with a paw. And if that doesn't work, she tries to put her paw in my mouth. It occurred to me that her conception of me myst be of a service like one of those coin-operated vibrating massage chairs you find in shopping malls. Insert something in the slot for extra time. Really old cats are something special. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- e m a i l : j a c k @ c a m p i n . m e . u k Jack Campin, 11 Third Street, Newtongrange, Midlothian EH22 4PU, Scotland mobile 07800 739 557 http://www.campin.me.uk Twitter: JackCampin |

Lying down high up on the chest was also Betty's favorite position. I think it's special when you're falling asleep and the last thing you see is a contented kitty face, and the first thing you see when you get up is a fast asleep kitty face. |

I think it's special when you're falling asleep and the last thing you see is a contented kitty face, and the first thing you see when you get up is a fast asleep kitty face. My mom's medical alert system (the pendant thing) wakes me at 2:30 this morning to tell me that they had received an alert from mom and that she requested an ambulance to take her to the hospital. She has heart problems and this is the third time in two months that she had to go to the hospital - it's also the prime reason that I'm selling my house and moving to Florida to help her out. Calling is sort of pointless since they also call my brothers and none of us can do anything about it except worry. I spoke to her and the ambulance had arrived and were taking her to the hospital and she'd call me from there. So about 3am she calls to say that she's ok and will be staying for the night. Good luck trying to go back to sleep now. So I toss and turn, end up on my stomach, and Scooter seizes the opportunity to climb on my back. I can feel him laying down in Sphinx position, paws forward on my upper back. He's a light cat but it is a bit weird to try to sleep with a cat on your back. After a few minutes I moved and he left, only to push up under my arm, and somehow I went back to sleep that way. |

When I am in bed, I usually find Nikki curled up beside the curve of my knees, and Duffy will be tucked in on my other side. Selina is usually happy to sleep on the chair in my bedroom or possibly on the corner of the bed. MaryL |

It's very worrying when your mother is so far away. Mine lived in Alaska for the last 14 years of her life, and I'm in California. However, my sister lived in the same Alaska town, so that wasn't quite so bad. Joy |

Pickles likes to lie on the other pillow, while Koala is down near the foot of the bed. Once in a while he sleeps on top of my legs. Since I got back from visiting my brother, they're both closer at night. At one point, Pickles was lying against my back and Koala was on my legs. At another point, when I had turned over, Koala was up against my front. He even let me pet him while he was there. That's the first time that's happened since I got him. I guess I should have gone away sooner. ;-) Joy |

She has colitis, and also almost died last year of a C.Diff infection, so anything like diarrhea is worrysome, but it wasn't that and it wasn't heart related. She's going home tonight. Thanks for the purrs, apparently they helped. What was a bit strange was that I kept checking for family email, and by the time 11am came there was none. So I called her, found out what I could, and sent one. It turns out that the service had only called me. The others got to sleep through the night. |

Last night I had a dream that I was being suffocated by a huge dog sitting on my chest. Hit out at it, then woke up and realized I'd just thumped a cat. I don't know which one, but they all seem to have forgiven me. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- e m a i l : j a c k @ c a m p i n . m e . u k Jack Campin, 11 Third Street, Newtongrange, Midlothian EH22 4PU, Scotland mobile 07800 739 557 http://www.campin.me.uk Twitter: JackCampin |
