But is it properly named? Why is the proposed name any better
than rec.pets.cats.pedigrees?

Because the group would deal with all questions related to breeds and
breeding, not just pedigreed cats. The purebred cat belongs to a
recognized strain established by breeding individuals of unmixed lineage
over many generations. There is also a worldwide interest in developing
new breeds in both the dog and cat world.

Besides, what's considered pedigreed in the US may not be in Russia.
There are many cat organizations, each with their own list of what is
pedigreed.

Besides the name matches rec.pets.dogs.breeds.

I think buying from a breeder only prevents one cat or possibly more from
the shelter to getting a good and loving home. While going to a cat show is
cool and seeing the various breeds I still think it is better to adopt from
the shelter. You can also find on occassion purebred cats at shelters as
well. But I still feel that shelter cats are just as good as any breed of
cat you can get from a breeder. My Isis is a perfect example of this.

rec.pets.cats.breeds is a brilliant idea... I am a cat lover be it

purebreds
or moggies and I hate up setting the people who will only get a cat from a
shelter, they can't see the attraction of pure breeds which I respect,

used
to think that way myself, there are too many un wanted cats out there. On
the other hand why should I feel guilty for buying 2 Ragdolls, I love them
just as much as my little moggie.

I think you are wrong about that. When I adopted Isis I saw exactly

what
her
temperment is like and I made the right choice because in that

instant
we
were bonded. I think cats from shelters are just as good as any

purebreed.

Well I have had plenty of cats over the past 30 years from rescue, I

am
not
saying purebreds are better, I am saying if you want a particular type

of
cat it may be very difficult to find a cat in a rescue center, where

they
are in cages nervous etc, not showing their full personality. However

all
my previous cats have maybe had a few problems to start off with as

most
have been very abused by previous owners but what ever they have

turned
out
like, I have never given up on them, and they all turned out to be

brilliant
cats.

I have had many cats from rescue centres over the years, and now I

I

If it keeps the pretentious BS, and promotion of breeding despite the
fact that there are cats dying every day for lack of homes, out of the
other cat groups I'm all for it.

I am a cat lover be it purebreds or
moggies and I hate up setting the people
who will only get a cat from a shelter, they
can't see the attraction of pure breeds
which I respect, used to think that way
myself, there are too many un wanted
cats out there. On the other hand why
should I feel guilty for buying 2 Ragdolls, I
love them just as much as my little
moggie.

Why should you feel guilty? Perhaps because you chose to discard ethics
and instead make a choice based on your own selfish desires. Whether you
love your cats isn't the point.

Megan

But I have never put a cat into a shelter or bred cats! so I am not
responsible for so any cats being put into shelters!
Instead of moaning at someone who has this time decided to buy a cat, where
normally I get old rescue cats, have a moan at people who bred moggies and
give them away or dump them!
and if you read my previous posts you would know my partner said Ragdolls or
nothing!
we are not all cat lovers you know!
