Smokey is dead
He was one of the outdoor cats that sometimes came to my front door
for feeding. Not as regularly as Jet and Baby, but fairly often. Mostly he hung out in the backyards. He was very pretty, blue-grey with a face like a fox. Peaked ears and sort of slanted eyes. He was on my short list for cats that I might take in but I just had no room for any more cats. Plus, while I could sometimes touch him while he was eating, he was still pretty feral and Espy would have been really ****ed off at another aggessive male in the house. It was a pretty brutal winter and he stopped showing up in late December. I had hoped that he was in the backyards down the block where the other members of the colony live, taken care of by some of my neighbors. Or maybe someone had realized what a nice cat he was and took him in. He was one of the cats that I TNR last March or April when we did the colony. So I finally went down the block and asked a few neighbors and one said that she had seen him dead in the street on the next block around the end of December. We're right by a college and some of the kids drive rather quickly down our small street so it isn't surprising that he got hit. I think we lost four cats over the last two years that way. Anyway, belated purrs for Smokey. He was probably no older than two or three. He did have at least one baby though. One of the two cats that I didn't catch for TNR looks just like him. Very very feral though, about the worst on the block. I'm going to get him this spring I hope, but with regret because he is so pretty and his babies would likely be also. Of course, they're all so cute, but Smokey more than most. I miss having him come around. |

It sounds like he may have been a Russian Blue, at least partially, like my Miranda: http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...0/IMG_2052.jpg http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_2199.jpg -- Marina, Miranda and Caliban.
