in the cat food brand you normally feed them? I've heard a lot of people
say their cats have a preference. I know Tigger does, so much so that
Claire can only buy a certain coloured box of a well known manufacturer's
pouches as he won't eat the other flavours in the other boxes that are
sometimes on special offer. The box Tigger likes never seems to be on "buy
2 for xxx"

Boyfie does not seem to have a preference in the brand of food I feed him
which comes in 2 boxes of "whatever in jelly" all different and a box of
"whatever in gravy" all in senior format because he's now 12.
However if there's a very special offer on his brand of non-senior food, I
have been known to buy that ;-)

I notice that Felix are now selling senior food pouches so I picked the box
up to look at the ingredients. Yep, still "various sugars" - now you'd
think having sugar in cat food is bad enough for the younger ones (and
that's why I didn't buy it once I realised) but to put it in food for
elderly cats who may already have dental problems is a bit shocking.
I have to admit that I didn't even know until around 2005 that sugar was in
a lot of wet cat food, Nüle told me, so I always checked any labels after
that.
Boyfie has a vet check every year along with his injections and up now to
his teeth are perfect, with just a little bit of tartar on which is to be
expected for his age. and no cause for concern. Tigger's teeth are also
good, but he is only 6. He eats the same brand of food as my cat.
Boyfie's lack of preference also applies to his beloved "sprinkles" which is
what I call the dry food he has at 10 pm. I am fairly that this boy was
reared on dry as he loves it so much, but I'm not about to get my lad's
urinary system blocked up. So I give him 1 tablespoon of dry "for him to go
to bed with" just a sprinkle. I give him Go-Cat Senior sprinkles, but tbh
any dry food would make him very happy.

Tiger and Sweetie Pie get Wellness chicken canned twice a day. At bedtime they get a little bit of Fancy Feast and a little Friskies Indoor Delight dry. I think I spend more for their food than for mine!

What an interesting question... I have a 14-year-old American
shorthair who has never turned his nose up at any flavor of cat food I
have ever bought. I vary the flavors from chicken to beef to turkey to
salmon to shrimp to liver and everything in between, and my cat gladly
gobbles it all up without showing the slightest preference.

(snippage)

Persia has to eat prescription food but she refused to eat the canned.
She loves the Hill's prescription k/d dry kibble and I'm happy she likes
it. She gets a small dab of Fancy Feast (about 1 tablespoon) in the
morning. She seems to prefer the chicken, turkey or beef pate over
anything fishy. The only exception to that seems to be the FF salmon
pate. She likes that one.

Hi, Dan
Welcome to the group. I hope you'll join in again and be a regular member
here.
Boyfie is a greedy cat and not very fussy about his food as he was once a
lost boy. For ages, I think. But he absolutely won't eat Hi-Life pouches,
60 per cent chicken or the other one tuna that I thought I was giving him a
treat with.
"I'm not eating that muck" he said; and he didn't.
He likes Whiskas pouches, any flavour, jelly or gravy.

Tigger his "cousin" is far more fussy about the flavour of food or whether
it's in gravy or jelly.
I've suggested to my s-i-l that she should buy a different box of pouches
and let him eat them (or not)because he is perfectly healthy. He only likes
jelly and certain flavours. Myself, I do not let a healthy cat (or dog)
dictate to me what they will eat when I give them perfectly good food.
We don't do picky here, never have, never will., unless they are ill.

Sarsi adores sardine flavoured cat food we refer to it as "stinky fishy" and when she hears that she in at the bowl before it's even open, Bonnie doesn't care -its food she eats it. Both love "Dreamies" they've been known to waken me up by dropping the bag on my head! And also they adore the "Wilkinson's" anti furball treats 65p a bag and really work- they get them quite a lot

I used to *think* that the Princess Rita had a flavor preference, but it turned how to be the form, not the flavor. She'll eat anything, as long as it's in the classic pate form, smashed with a fork. No chunks, no shreds, no gravy whatsoever. Only pate, and mashed with a fork. Then she loves it.
I try to mix up the flavors to give her a variety so she doesn't get tired of any one type, because the only stuff they sell like that in the warehouse store is the seafood variety. I have to pick up the poultry or beef varieties in other stores. I don't shop around for myself very often, but the Princess must be indulged. She gets Fancy Feast.
One other exception, she seems to really *love* the morning stuff with eggs and cheese in it. That really gets her going.

Same thing with Persia. She prefers the pate. If I give her food with
gravy she laps up the gravy but ignores the actual food. She much
prefers the pate. And yes, it must be mashed with a fork!

Persia gets a tiny bit of Fancy Feast every morning. It spurs her on to
eat her r/x kibble.

I tried that mornings food with Persia. She was like what is this?
Apparently she doesn't like eggs or cheese.

I used to read posts about how a cat wouldn't eat this, and how
another cat wouldn't eat that, and I smuggly thought that they just
don't know how to feed cats. Then I got Nipsy and owe an apology to
those posters. He just whines and whines until I put out something
different, and then he ignores that. Marlo isn't a whole lot better.
Scooter has his moments too, but he just walks away rather than whine
at me.

ROFL! Now you know!! Now one of the *odd* things is that I hear a lot of people don't let the wet food sit around very long, and pick it up when it's more than half an hour old. If I did that, Rita would never eat anything! She seems to *prefer* it after it's gotten a bit dried and nasty. So I leave it down all day and only pick up the plate in the morning when I replace it with a clean plate with clean food (which she again ignores until it's dried out a bit). I use paper plates for her canned food and give her a fresh plate every morning. Yeah, I'm indulgent. Very, very indulgent.
