The uni I work for online got new chat and IE 6 users sometimes had trouble
with chat. THey needed to install a slightly older version of java to work.
So that is a tip for some of you that may help. If you install java and it
doesn't work, you might need a slightly older version.

I can't figure out how to register.
I am not an IRC or MIRC user. I don't even know what that means.
Help?

Now for the chatroom links:

Starchat IRC for WebTV users:
http://www.starchat.net/wtv/wtv.php?...lippys_catchat

Java IRC for PC users:
http://www.starchat.net/chat/index.p...lippys_catchat

For IRC & MIRC users, the website is http://www.starchat.net, and the
channel is: #flippys_catchat

If you need any help getting into the room, please see this page:
http://www.flippyscatpage.com/catchat.html

Elisabet,
If you use a PC to access the internet, but don't have a separate
program for IRC-chatting (such as mIRC, Pirch, MS Chat, Visual IRC,
IceChat etc.), you should use the link under "Java IRC for PC users".
The link goes straight to a browser based version of the chatroom.

Choose a nickname and enter it into the box "Nick", no passwords or room
keys required, just hit Connect to StarChat and you'll se a list of text
flitter by - your computer connects to the StarChat server - let the
text do its thing, and once it stops you can go ahead and chat -
provided there are others to chat with...

To chat you just type your text into the box below the (fairly small)
chat window and hit Enter - and your text turns up in the chat window
for all chatters to see.

I tested chatting with myself (as there only seemed to be a couple of
bots on the channel) with one me in the Java chat and another on IceChat
in IRC and it works just fine, both can see what the other says. So now
I've really done it - talking to myself in public and over the net!!

Hope this helps.

Thank you Christine, you always take time for this sort of questions,
I have tried this and it does not work.
I enter a nickname, hit connect and the chat window opens. It tells me:
Connecting to irc.starchat.net 7000......
and then nothing more happens. At all.

Elisabet

If you do have Java enabled in your browser, I really don't know what
else to suggest. Check the Java settings of your browser.
In Mozilla Firefox it is under Tools - Options - Web Features (at least
in version 1.0.6), In Netscape 7.2 under Edit - Preferences - Advanced -
Scripts & Plugins, in Netscape 8.0 under Tools - Options - Site Controls
and within the frame Web Features. In Internet Explorer (the latest one
I have is 6.0 sp2, I don't use it) it's found under Tools - Internet
Options/Settings (?, my IE's in Finnish), Additional settings (or
something like that). Used to have Opera too at some time, but it didn't
do what I wanted so I deleted it. Like I've said before, I like to try
out different programs.

As I read it, the suggestion is, if you have more than one browser, to
access AOL with Netscape then minimize that window and open another
browser to go to the chatroom - same dialup session.
Norm

I don't have a clue how to access AOL any other way than through AOL. I
do't even know what Netscape *is*.
But thanks for trying. I think I'm a lost cause :-)

I think I got into the "room" and figured out how to put comments. But
where is the "send" button??? I've only been in one other chat room in all
these years:
the one @ Petloss on Mon. eves and it doesn't look like this one.

Hopitus, there IS no "send" button. The solution is to press 'Enter' :-)

Hi group,

For those of you who are not already seen this notice, I would like

to
invite you to Flippy's Cat Chat Party that is being held in the
chatroom
on Sunday July 31st, for 3 hours starting 9am, Melbourne time.
Please
check the following links to find out what day/time it will be in

YOUR
time zone:

Australia/Pacific: http://tinyurl.com/cs5z3
North America: http://tinyurl.com/84859
South America: http://tinyurl.com/7aqz5
Europe: http://tinyurl.com/9ma6j
Asia: http://tinyurl.com/7pcwm
Africa: http://tinyurl.com/d2f8s

Several people that you already know will co-hosting the party with

me:
Jo Gray (http://www.flippyscatpage.com/sanity.html),
Vicky Chapman (http://www.flippyscatpage.com/rain.html), and

I'll be using mIRC to chat at Flippy's Cat Chat Party, because I can't
get
the Java to work on my PC. I assume I just have to enable something,
although i have no idea what.

Anyone care to enlighten me?

Ta,
Yowie

What browser are you using?

D'Oh, that would have helped. IE 6.0 something something.

Yowie

'Kay, as far as I know, the latest versions of IE do not come with Java
already installed so you'll have to download it and install it. You can
get
it he http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Thanks CN, it worked!

Yowie, you'd be much happier using mIRC. The screen on the web link is SOOO
tiny! If you need help adding the server to your list in mIRC just let me
know for the next time

Jill
