Well, thank you! That was smart (and considerate) of you.

Still haven't heard back from them, but I feel better about it. I'm
hoping they'll at least reduce the bill, if not outright remove it.

That hasn't occurred to me before. My ISP provides space on their web
server as part of what you get with a regular user account, and I've
never had any big need for web hosting, so that works fine for me. Maybe
it's time for me to look into something like this.

Yeah... next time use Photobucket - it's free and they EXPECT people
to go and look at it. If you manage to use up the bandwidth allocated,
the next person to try and view it will just get a 'sorry, come back
later' message.

flattering, but very, very expensive flattery. All those downloads tap
the resources of the server, and someone's gotta pay for it. But, yikes!

At the end of the phone message, the guy said I should call him back
tomorrow and he'd "see what he could do for me". I really hope they'll
give me a break because this is the first time this has happened with
my site, in my many years of using their service. I was naive and stupid
and didn't realize what might happen. I also didn't realize that I would
be held responsible for all that bandwidth. Duh.

All I can say is, I'm never going to do that again! I'll probably put
stuff on my site, but I'm not going to post it publicly anymore. Too
bad, but I can't take that risk again.
