Spicey was loud
Spicey's lately been loud and insistent about being allowed to be with the
rest of the family. When she's on the other side of the screen, she protests by crying and crying, and rattling and scratching at the screen. This reminds me so much of when she was in her carrier on the ride home from Suz's apartment. Is the upstairs like a cage to you now, Spicey? It's more space than you had in your previous home, you know. Spicey looks awfully cute standing at the gate with her front paws against the screen, showing her big eyes and soft tummy. And at night, when I heard her lonesome calls and noisy but vain attempts to get through the gate, I felt an almost irresistible urge to let her in. So today, I decided to keep the gate open all day, except when I was feeding Dot and Buster. It's the weekend after all. After some initial greetings between Spicey, Dot, and Buster, the incumbent kitties slept most of the day, as you'd normally expect of cats. Spicey though, was so excited to have the run of the place, that she stayed up all day like a little kid on Christmas, still doing her little trotting from room to room. Dot was curled up on the bed, dead to the world. Buster was napping on the couch. By this time, Buster seemed to have decided that Spicey was just another holding in his dominion. He sleepily kept one eye on her as she meowed happily and explored. Eventually Spicey, maybe feeling both a little sleepy, and suspicious about Buster's sudden loss of interest, parked herself on the couch opposite Buster, meatloafing there and occasionally resting her eyes and letting them close a little. Until inevitably, sleep took her too, and the whole house was silent. |

Certainly seems that way. Spicey seems to be blossoming in her new environment, with perhaps just a hint of some thorns. The clawing was from fear and it's likely that she will stop that now. I wonder what she'll be like when visitors come calling? My cats tend to disappear. I used to be one of those visitors. Spicey does attack visitors, and also, Suz's aides, particularly if they were new, but also ones who knew her for many years. |

They may not always love each other but they're working it out. Thank you, Tak! Jill |

She became half-feral in her own house because she was unable to be touched by her meowmie. Boyfie was going feral and it took years to get to where I am. You've done it in weeks. Suz would be proud of you. |

They seem to have completely accepted Spicey. Spicey's fine with them too, but has some cute residual insecure behaviors. Like a "delayed hiss" where she seems to occasionally remember that these are strange cats, and hisses several seconds after she passes by one, sometimes when they're already out of sight. That's pretty funny. Kind of like, "Oh wait - I forgot to hiss. I hiss in your general direction!" -- Joyce There is no alternative to being yourself. |

You've done it in weeks. Suz would be proud of you. It makes me think that Spicey probably longed for more company and social contact than she had with Suz. Now she has a human who can touch her, and she seems both excited and scared by it at the same time, which would explain why she's purring one minute and burying her fangs in the hand that pets her the next. But also - feline company! It's kind of amazing that she's accepting two strange cats, in *their* territory, so quickly. Maybe what scares her the most about humans is the size difference? At least other cats are on her scale. It's such a happy story! I love reading about it. -- Joyce There is no alternative to being yourself. |
