+AD4APg- My Uncle Pat has always been very fond of dogs. He has especially
+AD4APg- loved
+AD4APg- Springer Spaniels. When his Springer named Bridget crossed the
+AD4APg- Rainbow
+AD4APg- Bridge a few years ago he was devastated. He went without canine
+AD4APg- companionship for quite a while. Then he heard about a Springer out
+AD4APg- in
+AD4APg- Arizona that needed a forever home.
+AD4APg-
+AD4APg- Pat drove out to Arizona and met Maggie and fell in love with her.
+AD4APg- She
+AD4APg- had been rescued by the Arizona people from a kill shelter in New
+AD4APg- Mexico. She had also been badly abused. On the drive from Chandler to
+AD4APg- her forever home in California she rode almost the whole way in the
+AD4APg- passenger footwell. Her first meaningful experience was when Uncle
+AD4APg- Pat
+AD4APg- stopped at McDonalds and got her her own hamburger. Getting a
+AD4APg- McDonalnds
+AD4APg- hamburger remained one of her favorite things to do.
+AD4APg-
+AD4APg- She adjusted well to living in California, but because she had been
+AD4APg- so
+AD4APg- badly abused as a puppy she remained shy and kind of timid. Maggie
+AD4APg- spent
+AD4APg- a lot of time in her +ACI-dog box+ACI-, a comfortable dog bed in the corner
+AD4APg- of
+AD4APg- the living room. She loved to play with her cousin Cali,
+AD4APg- Grandmeowmie's
+AD4APg- Springer. She also got along very well with the kitties that come by
+AD4APg- Uncle Pat's house. When Cali crossed the Rainbow Bridge Maggie was
+AD4APg- very
+AD4APg- sad for a while, but she endured. Then when Grandmeowmie adopted
+AD4APg- Pearl,
+AD4APg- Maggie made the required adjustment again. Pearl is a Coonhound, not
+AD4APg- a
+AD4APg- Springer, so Maggie had to make a fairly large adjustment, but she
+AD4APg- did.
+AD4APg- Maggie and Pearl became buddies, and loved to spend time with each
+AD4APg- other.
+AD4APg-
+AD4APg- Maggie managed to train Uncle Pat very well. She trained him to take
+AD4APg- her
+AD4APg- to Starbucks and to share his frappucinos with her. And she trained
+AD4APg- the
+AD4APg- people at Starbucks to fix her her very own fraps in sample cups.

+AD4APg- A few years ago Maggie started having seizures. They were pretty
+AD4APg- scary -
+AD4APg- she would often bite her own flews and get all bloody. The vet tried
+AD4APg- a
+AD4APg- bunch of different drugs and doses but nothing seemed to really
+AD4APg- control
+AD4APg- the seizures. Then just a few months ago they went to a specialist in
+AD4APg- Orange County who prescribed a new drug. This new drug was wonderful+ACE-
+AD4APg- Instead of having a seizure every couple of weeks, she went two
+AD4APg- months
+AD4APg- without one+ACE-
+AD4APg-
+AD4APg- But then earlier today her medical problems caught up with her. She
+AD4APg- had
+AD4APg- a series of massive seizures and a stroke. She left for the Rainbow
+AD4APg- Bridge while Uncle Pat held her in his arms at the vet's office.
+AD4APg-
+AD4APg- She has been Pat's constant companion. He went almost everywhere with
+AD4APg- her. It was very rare to see Pat anywhere without Maggie. We are so
+AD4APg- very
+AD4APg- sad for Uncle Pat, and we will be purring for him as much as we can.
