Default Purrs for Dave's mum

If there was anything wrong with them it would be in a seperate post
probably asking for purrs. But just for you, Dunzi is digesting a fly
she caught earlier (see the thread about the damage to the bedroom)
and Sarsi is having a serious snooze on the PC

And while I was typing this- Dave's mum called. Dave's dad went into
one and smashed a window at the hospital this morning. She sounds
terrible and I keep wanting to go and see her even through she's miles
away and I can't drop everything (I have warned my boss that I might
have to and she's understanding about it through it will be unpaid
leave if it's this month) all the time. I mean she's one of the most
talkative people on the phone ever- Dave's mum calling means putting
everything on hold normally for at least half an hour (her record is
over two) but tonight she was just so quiet and off the phone in under
5 minutes. She keeps saying "It's awfully sad" which doesn't do the
situation justice then again I don't know if any words can..

I know she doesn't like cats to the extent of trying to persuade
Dave's brother not to adopt a couple from a shelter but can they prove
their generosity of spirit and rise above that to send purrs? Or if
not that send them for Dave and his dad - I was talking to the guy
just 4 weeks ago and he was fine. All this started a week last Friday
and the speed of it is horrifying

And Adrian? Just to keep you happy- Dunzi just popped out to the
kitchen for a few nibbles and is sitting in the hallway having a wash
but no sign of movement from Sarsi just yet

Is Dave's mom alone? I hope not; this is one of those times you don't
wish on anyone.

Pretty much- Dave's brother lives in Oxford or soemwhere like that and
can't get time off work (He's a logistics guy in the RAF organising
supplies for troops in Iraq and Afganistan) so like us he can only
call and he had a big falling out with her so he doesn't call her too
much. Dave's sister was disowned ages ago- long story and I do not
blame his parents having spoken to her a few times- we went ex-
directory to avoid her and alas they moved from where they used to
live a couple of years ago and lost touch with the neighbours they
had. It;s not a big place where they live but Dave's mum is something
of a snob and once they owned their own place she sort of ignored the
people from back when they used to rent.

She has a neighbour she says she gets on well with and a couple of
very old friends in Edinburgh but that's really it which is why I
would like to go and see her but as I say it's a long way and I will
lose pay over it (I am not being material just practical it will be
expensive to get there so I can't keep doing it) this month through
next month I get my annual leave allowance back and I might do it

she's been hinting quite loudly that maybe Dave and me could go and
live up there but we'd be next to useless as we don't drive so we
couldn't take her around (She has severe Meniere's disease so she
can't really go out on her own). I would have to get a new jib which
is something I could live with since medical secretaries are pretty
much in demand everywhere but what would Dave do? Anyway he and mum
get on very well when they are not too near each other! And she has
said we could stay at her place but we can't bring the cats because
she can't stand them which makes all other discussion irrelevant

Well for most of this week, I've been fine it's everyone else....

Dave's okay, the district nurse turned up on Wednesday when they'said
Thursday thus frustrating our plans to make the place meet Cecilia's
standards (I had a chance to get in early on Wednesday evening so we
were going to clear the sofa even through it isn't bad at the moment
but Cecilia is the one who threatens Dave with a hostel place if
there's any dust- I think he's scared of her!) still the nurse wasn't
Cecilia and just did her job and went although she moaned that it's
Dave's job to make sure all the dressings needed etc are there so she
had to go and get some but when she came back she apologised and said
it wasn't his job to do that

I just wish the district nurses had a bit more consideration (is that
a silly thought?) the days they are supposed to turn up they say
between 9-6 and now it seems they turn up on other days as well. I
always laugh at the time that Cecilia let herself in at 8.30 and
gasped "What are you still doing in bed?" Dave said "What's the time?"
She said "8.30" and Dave replied "That's why I'm still in bed". She's
told him he should be up at 7.00 and in bed by 9.30 at night. I hope
he doesn't take her up on this - in the week I have to get up at 7.00
and to have the pair of us bimbling round at that time when neither of
us are morning people is an accident waiting to happen.

to be fair this week apart from Friday he's been okay in the mornings.
We've organised a sandwich or something for lunch so he doesn't have
to eat before I go out and I can get up, get ready, feed cats and
leave without being on the end of one of his tantrums...

So as I say for me it's not been a bad week until....I'll get back to
that......

For some friends not so good. Chris M changed jobs last year and heard
on Thursday that the odds are in his new job he'll be made redundant
by the end of May.....he has debts and a flat with an expensive rent
even through it is a lot nicer than his old place and he'd like to
stay there.

Hugh's mum is still as bad as ever and his sister is back in the
Priory through this time thankfully she seems to be doing better

Matt's housing problems are on going and then on Thursday as we were
about to leave the pub he caused a bizzarre conversation, I was
talking to Chris when I heard Hugh go "Matt! Everyone move
everything!". We're well trained when Matt starts to have a fit,
everyone makes sure that there is nothing in his way he can fall
onto. Matt was on the floor but he was at that stage when he might go
one way or the other. Now I know one of the things that can start
Matt's fits is getting hot so I've leant over the bar and called over
one new barmaid and had the following conversation

Her "Last orders has rung"

Me "Gimme a pint glass of water and ice"

Her "It's after last orders"

Me "GIMME a pint of water and ice"

Her "But it's...."

Thankfully at this point before I had to dive over the bar and kill
her, Mary one of the other barmaids heard me and came over and said
"Matt?" so I said "Yeah" and she turned to the new barmaid and said
"GET IT!" (Mary is five feet nothing and I have seen her part two six
feet plus brawlers by getting between them and firmly saying "We'll
have none of this now will we lads?!" at which point they both looked
shamefaced and wondered off muttering "of course not Mary").
Thankfully the water helped, Matt managed to point at it and I gave it
to him and he rubbed several ice cubes into his head and brought
himself round.and then Hugh had a mild go at me because I handed Matt
a glass and if he was having a fit he could have bitten through
it...Like I would have pushed a glass in his mouth if he was having a
full blown seizure? Hugh apologised later, he's a bit stressed himself
because Bandit goes for her spay next week and like any good slave
he's a bit worried about it.

Anyway that's friends....oh and Dave's dad .............he broke the
same window and now they are saying that when his section runs out the
odds are they are going to extend it. As far as I can gather every
time he does something like this they increase his sedation pretty
soon he won't be able to move. Dave's starting to say that he doesn't
think his fdad will be home for a long time if at all but his mum's
still looking into getting to Lourdes

Anyway I stand serene in the midst of all this chaos around me, my
foot's still stiff but getting better, my tooth isn't too bad and I
have decided to if I can let it wait until the end of the month so I
can take time out to get it sorted better and all is fine at work....

Until Friday....I may well be asking for some job purrs soon as I may
resign tomorrow..............

Background is simple- one of my colleague's is a nasty bit of work.
Back in November she kicked my office door open, called me a "stupid
f***ing child" and if I had not got my hand out of the way she would
have hit me. I told Bev I wouldn't take it any further with no
witnesses it was my word against hers but I said I would deal with her
professionally but would resign if forced to work in the same office
as her I've had to work where someone has made a serious allegation
about someone else on the same team and it is not funny - work is bad
enough without having to chose sides

So Bev's manager has declared in the interests of "teambuilding" I
have to spend the next two weeks in the same office......

Bev presented it as a done deal. I got annoyed when I told Bev about
the above incident she said "Under our "respect for staff policy" she
can't do that". Maybe I shouldn't be so surprised that seems to only
apply to managers and not us mere minions. (I feel like telling Alice,
the offending manager I owe that person an aplogy at the last Xmas
party she was saying how she felt respected by her consulants but not
the management and I defended the management to her saying I thought
they did respect me- BOY! Was I wrong!)

I know it's silly but just the thought of going into that office where
given her form (And I am not the only one- wonder if they're hoping
she will assault me but in front of witnesses?) had me in tears. I
finally gritted my teeth went downstairs to go into the other
block....sat for 30 minutes opposite the door and smoked about 6 fags
feeling sick, Then ran back to my office where Steve (good bloke)
tried to calm me dowm so I gritted my teeth (Not a wise move with them
at the moment) and managed to get through the door and lock myself in
the office allocated for me...then I realised I hadn't redirected my
phone so I had to run back to my office to do that. I bumped into
Paula and burst into tears, she said she;d talk to Bev about this and
I said don't because I don't see a point and indeed did Bev act on my
concerns? Nope she stayed out of the way...

This time I went back to the office and didn't feel sick....well it
was a bit pointless as half way through the conversation I had had to
pop in the loo and throw up. By this point I am shaking, dizzy and
just want to be out of there. I am no stranger to bad atmospheres and
nasty people I worked with Zac for almost 2 years..at least he was
open about the fact that he hated everyone!

Somehow I got through the door again, shut it and tried to get on with
my work...oh yes, the PC isn't set up for me so I spent an hour with
IT getting that sorted

Then Bev finally emails me " change can be a challenge"

#Oh WOW! This is all my fault! I don't like change? No actually I
don't like being asked to work in an environment where I don't feel
safe? Isn't that a health and safety issue? For the record I don't
mind changes even sometimes welcome them but not this time okay?

Later on she emailed me to say "You done well today. You;re a good un.
You should be proud of yourself"

Afraid my actual reply was "Then why don't I feel proud? I feel I
should have refused to move then perhaps you would have shown me
respect and treated my dignity with the concern it merited rather than
ignoring my position which is that I don't want to work on a hostile
environment"

Monday I get her manager (she's off for 2 weeks) and discuss this
assuming I get into where I am supposed to be working as in my
experience in that office there is one secretary who comes on early
and she is off. I see....what am I supposed to do- go to my office
and snitch to the manager "I am in my office because none of the
others ever make time on a Monday apart from Hazel who is on
leave" (Believe me I once had to wait until 11.05 to find someone in
that office) or do I email them and say "In my office, can't get into
the bunker....will you let me know when I can?"

I know I am going on and I know a lot of this comes down to the same
person moaning...she tells the managers I don't do enough pool
work...well I do what I can.. for various reasons, in our place a
secretary PA's for 2 consultants and deals with letters from between
4-5 clinics. I deal with 5 consultants and do letters from 16 clinics
andf also do a lot more clinic admin than usual so why are they asking
her and not me where the problem lies...answer she's noiser than I am

When I was working I was always getting more work than the others. I
asked why one day when I was swamped and they said if they gave it to
so-and-so, it wouldn't be done well. So they'd give it to me so it
would be done right.

Girl, you've got a right to have a good vent in here. When I was subbing,
it seemed like I was always getting picked to take extra work on what would
be a teacher's planning period. Usually I didn't mind because there are
days when it is hard to get enough people in. Then I found out that one
school was using three subs for every four teachers being out. They'd make
all of us take over for the fourth teacher during what should be our
planning periods. Aside from the extra work, this was so totally unfair to
the teacher getting piecemeal coverage. Continuity is necessary to keep a
student's day going smoothly. What was worse, was this was in the special
needs rooms, where the kids really need to know what is happening with their
day.

I discovered that the reason they were choosing me for these extra duties
was that I'd do them an not whine about it. I figured that I needed to be
doing something, so I might as well teach. I complained to the principal in
charge of the subs about the above condition and was told that they had to
save money somewhere and the sub budget was always the first to take the
hit. I quit working at that school after that day. They were using subs to
balance their budget. How low can you go?

I don;t have a problem with that as such. For various reasons I have
more of my own work to do and I can do it and that's fine I have even
taken another consultant on for a month and if he had any problems why
at the end of it did he present me with 2 HUGE bunches of tulips as a
thank you? (He did ask me if preferred red or white wine and when I
said "I don't really like wine" he said he was really sorry he didn't
realise I didn't drink alcohol and I said "Can I tape this? Most of my
friends would choke to death hearing someone say they didn't realise I
didn't drink alcohol")

I do my job just fine and if I have time over then I will help people
out

I have now decided on a double pronged attack:

1. I am going to ask the manager who apparemtly organised this for a
quick chat. Does she really kniow why I don't want to be in that
office? Can I have it recorded somewhere that I don't want to and why?
I asked Bev (line manager) to tell her I was unhappy- did she?

2. Davy G- he's the consultant I do most of the work for (the nice guy
who got me Wahmsee Two). He's been discussing female sexual arousal in
Chicago last week (it's his job) last week but he is getting back to
find that with his bad knee (he was told 18 months back that they want
to do a replacement but that would mean he couldn't get on his
mountain bike for ages!) he will now have to go down two flights of
stairs and over the road to pick up/bring stuff/generally want to chat
to me he is not going to be happy..fine if I prime him right I can
send him in the right direction

time he does something like this they increase his sedation pretty
soon he won't be able to move.
