I have some Silvadene left over from when I had to go the wound care

clinic
when my incisions wouldn't heal. Pat, I can send it to you if you like.

It's a
prescription med.

I've been reading some articles online about flea allergy dermatitis. This
really sounds like her problem. There don't have to be a lot of fleas for
them to suffer with this. I saw a few fleas on her today. Previously I
didn't think this was it, but I've changed my mind now!

One of the articles is at http://tinyurl.com/3tjuj

The focus is on dogs but cats are also mentioned as being susceptible.

There are many more references, found at
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...+dermatitis%22

If Silvadene is effective to stop the itching from this condition, then I
accept your offer.

Pat, if you really think it is fleas, I would get some Advantage for her. Do
you use any flea stuff?

If you use the Silvadene, watch the cat carefully. It can cause allergic
reaction. I had a terrible time when I used it on my hard-to-heal cat
scratches. MLB

Silvadene is silver sulfadiazine. Its major use is as a treatment for
moderate to major burns, although it can help for skin infections. As
suggested, sulfa drugs do have a significant risk of infection.

Unfortunately, some of the better human drugs for itching are
prescription oral medications. Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream
would be a reasonable choice. Incidentally, the terms "cream" and
"ointment" are not interchangeable -- a cream is in a water base and an
ointment is in an oil base. My thinking is that an ointment is less
likely to soak into fur, and then get licked off.

The problems with corticosteroids is that you are limited by surface
area how much you can apply on skin, so dermatologists tend to use much
more potent prescription ones.

Will he tolerate being wet? Some wet compreses might help a lot if he
will tolerate it. One method is to put some oatmeal into cheesecloth or
some light cloth, soak it, and squeeze the liquid onto the itchy areas.
Another over the counter liquid is Burrow's Solution (aluminum acetate).

I have a suspicion this is going to need prescription drugs.

Oh. She sure doesn't need that. I also wonder how toxic it is to lick off?
