I put a couple of pictures up on A.B.P.A. You can find the same 2 photos
and a few more on
http://www.catfolks.net/photos. I made sure to not put
any really gross photos there. In the "GW" directory under there
(http://www.catfolks.net/photos/GW) are some photos that happen to show
her chest tube as well - if you're at all squeamish, you won't want to
go there.

Nancy also put some more picture up on her latest blog, at

Oh those pictures of you and Harri are just precious!!!!!

In case anyone hasn't read about it yet, Harri Roadcat is very ill.
Tuesday she was breathing very hard, so I took her to the vet. The vet
found that both of her lungs were partially collapsed and referred her
to a specialist 60 miles away. The specialist found a large amount of
fluid collecting in her chest cavity and a massive infection causing
even more fluid to form. He drained the fluid from her chest and
implanted chest tubes and put her on antibiotics.

Nancy and I went to visit her tonight. Her eyes were bright, her
breathing was normal, and she was purring all the time I petted her. She
had been refusing to eat, but that's because they were trying to feed
her wet food. We told her that she's used to dry food, and as soon as
they put out dry food Harri started chowing down.

The bottom line is that Harri certainly seems to be on the mend. Her
chart shows that between Thursday afternoon and this morning they had
drained 93 cc of fluid out of her chest. Between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM
when Nancy and I left no more fluid had been drained - and it's an
automated suction system that drains continuously. We're sincerely
hoping that Harri will be able to come home in the first few days of
next week.

All of you, thanks for your purrs and prayers and support.

Dan

Continuing get well purrs for Harri and a big sigh of relief that things are
looking so much better.

It's so good that she's recovering! She does look good in those
pictures, and the pictures aren't too gross. It just looks like she's
being taken care of in a NICU, and cat skin sure looks smooth.

Sending purrs that her recovery will be complete. She reminds me so much
of my two yellow.orange tabbies Ginger and Punkin -- who left for
the Bridge many, many years ago. MLB

Dan,
I am so glad to hear about Harrie, she has been so ill and I was terrified
she would not recover.
About 10 years ago I had a beautiful blue oriental, I had bred him, and
loved him dearly. I noticed that his breathing was difficult and took him
to the vet. The vet took an X-ray and saw the congestion in his lungs. We
were referred to a specialist, who agreed with my vets diagnosis, here it
was called Pyothorax. Jack was just one year old, and was very ill. His
chest was drained and the next morning the specialist operated. He survived
the operation, only to die several hours later. I was heartbroken and
feared for your Harrie, I have watched the group ever since for news. I
was so happy to hear that she is recovering and to see the photos. I hope
she continues to get better, obviously methods have improved since Jack's
death. Marie from OZ.

I'm so sorry about what happened to Jack! I have of course been fearing
the same sort of thing might befall Harri, so was greatly relieved to
hear from the vet this morning. This has been so very scary that I've
been useless since Tuesday.
