Default What Was Thought to Be Cat Constipation.......

My vet & I have been going a theory that my cat was constipated. For some
reason, until the third medication was tried, she did not do a full rectal
exam. Today, in the preparation for performing an enema, the vet found
something blocking "the way" out of the anus almost completely. The feces
behind this growth or whatever it is seemed soft. No x-rays have been done
yet.

I'm seeing an internist on Monday as that it the earliest he's available in
a 'specialty' clinic. The cat does defecate but it is a long struggle and
sometimes things end up on the carpet.

I am unsure what this blockage is and neither does my vet.

Has anyone experienced this? Please contact me directly as well posting to
this list at .

Needless to say this has me VERY concerned and am frustrated that I can't do
anything until Monday.

The cat is otherwise in good spirits, has not lost weight, does not show any
signs of fatigue, and her coat is good. Also no coughing.

I appreciate this opportunity to hear from any of you.

Thank you in advance,
Steve

Seems like that should have been done already.

Since there is a blockage of some sort, I'd have my cat at an emergency
hospital where a specialist could look at him sooner. That may be alarmist
since the cat is still able to defecate, but that wouldn't stop me.

Did the Vet consider "megacolon"? My understanding is with this
condition the anus is too small or doesn't dilate. I have heard of
babies having this problem. Best wishes. MLB

I'd suspect megacolon. What the vet felt could be an anal stricture
caused by straining.
