My niece has now become a breeder of Russian Blue cats. She has a new
homepage at http://www.kiamin.net/index_en.php I'm sorry, I still prefer moggies. ;o) -- Marina, Frank and Nikki marina (dot) kurten (at) pp (dot) inet (dot) fi Pics at http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/frankiennikki/ and http://community.webshots.com/user/frankiennikki |

Isn't the bug-eyed expression pretty cute? |

Isn't the bug-eyed expression pretty cute? Perhaps better in the home than in the show ring? =o) Marina, I'm with you. Moggies rule! Er, that is to say, Moggies rule ME. G (And their purchase price won't bankrupt you.) I've seen purebred cats that I thought were lovely, and many many times, I've wanted to rescue some poor lovely cat from the show cat life. My friend Vee DID rescue three such cats, and Leo and Bapu (both over the RB) were her devoted companions for years, as Tripper currently is. The fourth of these cat show rescues was never properly socialized as a kitten, and spent most of his life cowering under her bed. But at least Hodge(RB) wasn't being carted hither and yon in cages. Dogs don't seem to mind the show dog life. But the life of a show cat seems to me to be the antithesis of the life any normal cat would choose for itself! Off my soapbox, sorry. Your niece's Russian Blues ARE lovely creatures, though, Marina. If I ever WERE to pop for a purebred cat, I think it might well be a Russian Blue. That, or a Bengal. Melissa |

Melissa Houle wrote: Perhaps better in the home than in the show ring? =o) Marina, I'm with you. Moggies rule! The term moggie seems not to exist in the US, at least not in my neck of the woods, but I'm with you 100%! They rock! Americans love to give a certain veneer of elegance to things, thus the moggie is often referred to as a domestic shorthair. I understand that in some show circles, "American Shorthair" is a distinct breed, but in this case domestic shorthair usually means a mongrel cat. I'll take a mutt any day of the week. They have the best qualities of their conglomerate of breeds and therefore make the best pets; they are healthier, hardier and live longer; and have fewer of the inbred troubles common to the purebreeds. Certain breeds are simply gorgeous, I'll admit. Russian Blues are very lovely cats indeed; and I love the elegance of Persians, the lumberjack bulk of a Maine Coon, and the statuesque, Egyptian profile of an Abyssinian. They're beautiful and good pets in their own right, but I love the mongrels best: those who bring the best of everything to the table. My three little mutts wear tuxedos, and I'm a sucker for formal wear. Moggies rock! Blessed be, Baha |
