cycling and cats
Went for my usual evening 12-mile pootle around the lanes, me a *vision* in
fluorescent yellow long-sleeved cycling jersey with resplendent reflective bits on it :-) Obviously Waffles had informed the Mothership to tell the local felines of the various villages and lanes that I require checking up on. Down one lane, a little tortie lady meowed at me., So I stopped, said hello and was rewarded with a headrub on my hand. Further on, at various stages of the ride, I was being watched by a black & white cat, a *big* ginger tom with the most magnificent whiskers and a quite stunning black cat with emerald green eyes. Oh, and then a deer (red deer hind) ran across the road in front of me, less than ten feet away. Quite lovely. You have the loveliest times on a bicycle. ;-)
I do, don't I :-) I have to admit, where I live is great cycling countryside - not too hilly - undulations, yes, but no mountains! Plus, at this time of year, there is wildlife in abundance. It's a rare thing *not* to see some wildlife, be it a pheasant (usually see loads of these), rabbits, hares, deer... and then there's the local feline population who make my cycling pleasant too. The only thing I get wary of is if I pass someone out for a walk with their dog, and the dog isn't on a leash. Fido bounding towards me makes me a bit wary, as I never know if Fido is being friendly or ... not. It doesn't help if Fido is barking but the owner says, "Oh, he's a great big softie, he just wants to play" when Fido is running at you, barking loudly and bearing teeth. Thankfully that's a rare occurance. As long as the only felines you see are the domestic variety. I hope you don't run into any of the mountain lions that have been found wandering the countryside! Sounds beautiful. Joyce |

don't run into any of the mountain lions that have been found wandering the countryside! Chances of that happening in Norfolk are vanishingly small, I'm pleased to say. However, if I cycle to Banham Zoo, I can see ocelots, snow leopards and cheetahs :-) Sounds beautiful. It was.
