... My wife said "Honey, take me someplace expensive." I took her to the gas station! That's no joke. When I got my first Corolla, I could fill it from empty for $10. Now it takes $30 to fill it when it's already a quarter full. Joy |

Joy I'm currently getting six miles per £1, at current exchange rates with the US that's 3.66 miles per dollar. I'm consciously driving at 60 mph on motorway trips rather than 70 mph, which is helping. Jeanette |

Kraut / Larry Stark wrote: My wife said "Honey, take me someplace expensive." I took her to the gas station! Too true, alas! (Aren't they predicting $5.00 a gallon by the end of the summer?) Of course our European friends have lived with high gas(petrol) prices for a long time - perhaps that's why they opt for smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, instead of our American gas-guzzlers. |

Joy How many of the rest of you remember way back to the 1960's, when they predicted gas prices were likely to rise to sixty-cents a gallon, and people were saying "no one will ever be willing to pay that much!"? |

I do! I remember my husband and I seriously debated whether or not we could afford to take our planned camping vacation at Lake Tahoe (about a 400 mile drive, one way). Joy |

We pay about AUS$1.50 a litre, so thats about AUS$5.67 a gallon. The Aussie dollar and the US dollar are roughly the same at the moment (ie, fluctuating within a few cents each way), so haven't bothered to convert to different currencies. $8.67 per gallon, or $2.29 per litre is scary! Yowie Our prices are about the same as Adrian's - EUR 1,55 per litre (for 95E10 gas), which is about USD 2,24 according to the currency converter at http://www.xe.com/ucc/. The higher octane gas, 98E5, is at about EUR 1,60 / USD 2,31 per litre. I don't do gallons as there are various definitions of it. A litre is always the same whereever you are. According to Wiki, the US liquid gallon, which seems to be the most widely used, is equal to 3.785411784 litres. And then there's the imperial (UK) gallon, which equals 4.54609 litres. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallon -- Christine in Finland christal63 (at) gmail (dot) com |
