Default I Associate Sadness and Anxiety With Cats

I've owned a few cats, and all my dreams about them and some of my
waking time has been ridden with absolutely corrosive anxiety. Last
night, I had a dream about my current cat. He had a hair ball and
wore a look of pain. His pain pained me. When my previous cat died
seven years ago, I lost about 20 pounds because I could no longer
eat. I even had trouble breathing. I felt like something inside me
died. I still feel the same way.
Then there was Kathy. Shortly before she died, I dreamed that her
claws were grotesquesly large. In that dream, she just fell, like a
bag of groceries or a water balloon. Shortly after that dream, she
stopped retracting her claws because of her advancing age, and died of
natural causes.

I can't keep from crying just thinking about it. Thank God I'm not a
mother; it would have killed me a long, long time ago.

Cats. They cause me so much pain and worry. More than I can even
tell.

I think that's proof that you loved your kitties well. I couldn't imagine
not worrying about a cat that's not well. Yet, there have been many stories
here about the little joys and tiny victories with ill cats. And bonds that
can grow even stronger while caring for them.

I had one cat, Betty, who died of cancer. The love was always there, and I
wish that she didn't get cancer. But I remember the love and trust she
showed during her illness the most vividly.

If it wasn't the cats, it would be something else. The problem is you and
your anxiety. Medication and therapy can help with that.
