Belly Rubs
John K mentioned he is absolutely not allowed to touch Minnie's belly
below her neck/chest. I've never been able to hold a cat with it's belly up, like one would a human baby. Both Persia and Buffy "presented" belly to me. Over the years I've learned if a cat rolls over like that it means they trust you not to hurt them. That does *not* mean they want you to rub their belly. Buffy will sometimes let me pet her belly but only very quickly. She's got really soft fluffy orange fur. It's hard to resist touching! I give her belly a very light brushing of the fingers on her chest and scritches under the chin. I tell her she's a very pretty cat with such soft belly fur. She ignores the compliments. Doesn't take long before the front paws wrap around my hand and the back claws come into play. Potential ripping my arm to shreds. (BTDT with Persia clawed the heck out of me *in my sleep* and I didn't even realize I'd touched her belly.) So, no belly rubs for Buffy. I do love it when they become trusting enough to at least lie on their backs. Jill |

Very mellow cat except when it was time to get brushed or claws clipped. Then he would wailed like I was murdering him, and I had to chase all over the place. But teeth brushing was fine as he loved the tooth paste. I even found puncture marks on the tooth paste from his fangs. Had to hide it in a container which he learned to open. He also had a reputation at the vet for being aggressive. But he was a different cat when we got home. Back to his usual self. Winnie |
