Default Bandit (UK) and Snowball at TEDs - UPDATE

Not too good

Snowball lost 3 teeth. It's small consolation to know that he would
probably even have lost them on an annual (instead of 2-year) cleaning cycle
as he has the longhaired cats' apparent genetic vulnerability to poor tooth
quality. TEDs round here make most of their income from dental work on
Ragdolls, Birmans, Persians & other pedigree longhairs.

Bandit's tear ducts were impossible to flush, so it's off to a specialist
next week. In the meantime he's in an Elizabethan collar to stop him opening
the sebaceous cyst operation scar & tearing out the suture - like many of us
he'd rather have pain than itching. So he's immensely sorry for himself and
handling the collar with the utmost clumsiness. At least his dental went
fine: no removals at all.

Worst of all, though, is that Claudius doesn't recognise him as Stepdad
Bandit. Surprisingly for such a clever cat he thinks I've brought home a
stranger. Combination of the TED smell and the collar I suppose since
Snowball's been recognised fine.

While at TEDs B & S shared a big d-thing kennel both before and after their
ops. and snuggled up together throughout their ordeal for
comfort/companionship. So taking them as a pair worked well, thank goodness.
At least I did something right. Now to work out where to acquire the roughly
USD 800 it's cost so far & still counting with the specialist to come

More and harder purrs if you would, the magic hasn't gotten here yet. Now
off to separate C and B who are having a hostile "wail in each other's face"
contest.

Best

Gordon & the FF.

I'm sorry you will have to spend more money! I know first-hand just how
expensive a specialist is. Budget purrs coming your way.

I'm glad that they have both come through the anasthesia with no problems,
though. I've been very reluctant to get dental work for my cats, for the
same reason.

I'll give my two extra belly rubs, that should get them purring louder than
ever, especially Baggy. Purrs for your finances too.

Do the tear ducts have to be flushed? Our Siamese Rosie had blocked teat
ducts. Vet said it isn't uncommon in show style Siamese. They weren't
flushable.

Silver's had a blocked tearduct all her life... the vet tried to flush
it when she was spayed but it didn't work and he said it didn't
matter. It really doesn't seem to bother her at all, except when it
gets watery she likes having that side of her face rubbed (I think it
gets a bit itchy sometimes...) and occasionally it gets goopy and I
have to wipe her face gently with a damp cloth to clean it up (she
hates that but lets me do it...)

Ditto for Roxy. Same thing - the vet tried to flush her tearduct when
she was a kitten, but it didn't work. She's had a runny eye ever since.
(BTW, this is not the eye that just had the big infection recently.)
So now this pinkish stuff just runs down along her nose on that side.
When she and Smudge were really good buddies, Smudge kept it clean a lot
of the time. But they don't get along so well, now - I guess Roxy has
decided that Licky is "cool", and the "cool" thing to do is annoy Smudge,
so no more grooming from Smudge.

Roxy and Licky get along OK, they play together a lot, but I don't see
them grooming each other. So now her eye is always draining down her
face. She really doesn't want me cleaning it, so I don't. I don't think
it hurts her, so I just leave it alone.

Yes, that is what I did with Rosie. Washed her face for her so the spill
over tears wouldn't irritate her face and she did like having that part of
her face rubbed.
