I was about to go to bed just now and wanted to check that the cats were in.
Boyfie was visible but KFC was not on her bean bag. Unusual. Boyfie has a
wicker bed under the table that he only uses sometimes. Because of my eye
surgery I cannot see very well in the dark or bad light so I had to put my
hand into the bed to see if anyone was there.
KFC was in there and was so thrilled that I had found her that she scaled my
body (ouch) and settled herself around my neck. I felt obliged to put up
with it for ten minutes and I stroked her all over - up the tail too - and
she purred big time. I had to walk about as it was so uncomfortable (she
was holding on with her claws) so after ten minutes I had to bow over to
make her go back on the floor.
She now has the hump.

Wow! I bet she didn't want you telling us all what a mush she was
being.

LOL - cover's blown! She might even get thrown out of the Evil Female
Feline Club now that this information has come out (ie, the one with
Nox and Bandit - I wanted to call it the "Ebenezer Club" because he's
a smart evil cat who plots world domination, but all the real cats I
know about who are like this are girls!).

g Probably not. Don't let on, will you?

Yes, they do all seem to be of the feminine purrswayshun don't they? But
even Nox sleeps on her daddy's head, doesn't she? and I'm sure Bandit has
some nice moments too.
Kitty FC is a bit Jekyll&Hyde-y. You can never really tell what her mood is
going to be. Usually she is just an old grump, but if she wants to (and
*when* she wants to) she can be absolutely charming. I've learnt that she
prefers to call the tune herself so I usually let her ask if she wants some
scritches or to come up on to my knee, then she is very charming indeed,
headbutting my chin, purring up a storm, settling on my chest and kneading.
She breathes her love right into my face then..
However, if she stays on her beanbag in the kitchen, I leave her alone. I
take it as a hint that she doesn't feel friendly at the moment. This seems
to work well for us both.
She suspended her grumpiness last year (I posted about it because I was so
amazed) when my youngest nephew visited. He wasn't walking yet and he
crawled over and grabbed her, not too comfortably either, a handful of skin.
My heart was in my mouth. I was about to jump up to the rescue but I was
scared if I did jump up suddenly it might scare Kitty and she could lash
out.

Now if *I* had done that to her she would have definitely swiped me with
all claws out and maybe added a bite to make her point but she did nothing
of the kind. With the baby's hand still clutching her skin she headbutted
him, rubbed herself all around him and purred like crazy which made him
laugh and he let go. She then decided discretion was the better part of
valour and excused herself.
I still have no idea why she didn't bite or scratch him, I really thought
she might as this sort of liberty is not allowed as a rule. She'd have my
hand off if I went up to her and grabbed a handful of skin like baby
Alexander did.

My Kitty FC is ALWAYS a perfectly charming, lovely lady!!!

But the same thing happened with IBKFergus - she let Cary roughhouse
her, and didn't lash out at all until Yowie came along, at which time,
she directed her all her annoyed aggression at *her*.

Cats seem to make allowances for baby humans, as though they understand
that they can't expect the same behavior from babies that they should be
able to expect from adult humans.

You aren't a bare kitten. ;-) Cats seem to know when bare kittens don't
know any better. We've had several that would hiss, then maybe slap
with their claws sheaved. Most of the time they let the littler ones do
what they are doing, then head for the hills as soon as they can do so
safely.

A girl I know, the first time I saw her she was 4 years old and holding her
cat by the neck, the cat, Tabetha didn't seem to object at all. The girl is
now 27 and holds her cats properly.

I've seen cats be amazingly tolerant of what little kids do to them.
Some are just gentle, and some seem to be almsot hypnotized by little
children. My dad had a next-door neighbor who used to drag her cat
everywhere like that girl with the elastic cat in the "Peanuts"
cartoons; the cat used to lie just like that, slung over the kid's
arms, with a silly smile on his face. He used to follow the kid
around, too, when she wasn't shlepping him.

One of my earliest memories is of dragging my grandmother's black cat
around, maybe by his neck, maybe under his arms, I don't know. I was
carrying him anyway, and I was so small that his back legs dragged on the
floor. He was an entire tom (people didn't have cats neutered in those
days) and I don't remember him ever scratching me. He could have scratched
me to bits if he'd wanted to, the way I dragged him around regularly but he
didn't. His name was Tiddly.

Well, there, you see. If he never scratched anyone for giving him
that name, he must have been good-natured.
