Default Kitty Farmcat is doing well

I've not updated about KFC for a while now. She's doing really well atm.
She will not eat anything except "real chicken" unfortunately - I worry
about feeding her exclusively on her "ultimate favourite food" as there will
be nothing to tempt her if she deteriorates again, and I do wish I could get
her back on to cat food, but I can't.
She has put on an amazing amount of weight, she was really frail and now she
isn't. It might be due to the two anabolic steriod injections she got from
TED or the rehydration fluid that she needed because of her CRF that I gave
her to drink. She chose to drink it over the choice of plain water, maybe
because of the sugar in it.
She's on plain water to drink with rehydration fluid once a week now, all
the chicken she can eat is hers and this girl is getting plump.
Her fur got horribly matted because she does not groom herself now, and I
could do nothing about it for three months when I broke my ribs and shortly
after that fell down the stairs and did dire things to my wrist, shoulder
and neck. I have managed to tease and pluck out some of her mats gradually
now - she hates it and slashes, but what she doesn't know is that I will be
asking my friend June (who can handle anything, stallions..) to visit and
hold her - it will be a towel-over-the-head job - to tease all those mats
out, and just maybe, if June is up for it once we get her groomed out from
the mats, she might get a bath for the first time in her life, her fur is so
horribly greasy.
I know June will be up for it, actually, watch this space.

I'm SO glad she's feeling better and is eating so much, but I would worry
about the exclusively chicken diet also. Have you telephoned your vet to
see what he says about it? Is Fancy Feast sold in the UK? If not you might
be able to order some over the internet - although you might be hesitant to
spend that amount on something she might not eat. But I've found that to be
the one thing a cat will eat when they'll have nothing to do with anything
else.

Has Boyfie been bringing her any rats or collared doves?

I saved that post of yours for future reference since KFC did so well on it.

It's *always* good for an older animal to have a bit of extra weight just in
case they get ill and lose some.

Her fur got horribly matted because she does not groom herself now, and I

And collared doves, too, right? When boyfie gets the notion to catch one.

Sounds like it will be a nasty, but necessary business, and that KFC will
be better off afterward for your having done it.

Glad the old girl is doing so well. What can you do when all she
wants is the chicken and she needs whatever she is willing to eat so
desperately.

I know giving her a bath sounds a bit like beating up on her, but it
should go fairly quickly with help. She will feel so much better once
its done. She can't be too crazy about how she smells either.

We had to give out Sam a bath once in a while when he got old and
stopped grooming. He didn't like the bath, but you could see he
really loved the results.

How wonderful to read. Thank you for mentioning the rehydration fluid
again. I looked it up and will be making some of that for the little
one. See how she likes it.

Back to KFC... Um, good luck with the whole bath thing. I found that
mine will tolerate the "kitty wipes" that clean the fur and only make
them semi-damp. DH managed to give Leonidas a bath after he ran
outside, and instantly rolled in the dry dirt (he had been white, came
back in brown). DH decided that the young man would bathe, and so he
did. Apparently, without any ill affects to DH, which completely
astounds me (lol).

I wish you well. Tuppence used to have the matting problem, and the
vet fixed it by giving her a "lion cut", which she despised, since she
was *so* skinny, and it made her look funny.

I am just so happy that she is doing better, honestly. Guess chicken
is a bit fattening, eh?

Smokie Darling (Annie) - I'm kidding about the fattening thing G

Oh, this IS good news!

I'm glad to hear she is putting on weight!

I would be a little concerned about her getting the proper amount of
vitamins, though. A diet of only chicken can't have everything a cat
needs; I would think, at least.

I remember many, many years ago my TED at the time recommending vitamins
for Blizzsrd(RB) because she was getting one UTI after another.

I gave the vitamins to both of my cats, for several years. It came as a
powder that smelled nasty to me. But I simply measured out the correct
amount, and sprinkled it on their dry food. Both cats just ate it up;
even the powder in the bottom of the food bowls.

I wonder if there is a liquid vitamin available for cats?

I sort of doubt that KFC would willingly eat the powder, given how fussy
she is about food.

Might be worth looking into. I'd imagine you could just call TED's
office, and ask.

In any event, I really happy to hear KFC is doing so well!

Hi Tweed,

So glad that KFC is doing better! It is always nerve wracking to have
your 'senior citizens' feeling bad. I had to take my Biddy, who is 22,
to the vet last night for a swollen jaw. The vet said it was possibly a
tumor, but I disagreed with him, as she had no signs of any lump under
her chin until yesterday. So, he gave me some clavamox and said to bring
her back if it didn't get better. She was also dehydrated, so they gave
her some subq's and sent her home. She is acting much better, eating
what she wants, and taking the meds with little fuss. They weighed her,
and she weighs 5 lbs, but she never weighed over 7 lbs at her heaviest.
She is a good old girl!

Chin scritchies to KFC from Biddy and me!
Mishi
PS: can you tell me where you found the rehydration fluid recipe - I
would like to try it with her. Thanks!
