Default Older cat's behaviour

Hi all,

My cat is about 16 years old. He's become very thin in the last year. A
few weeks ago, about the time we put up the Christmas tree, he stopped going
into the living room. It's the only area int he house with carpeting and he
used to sleep there all the time. He doesn't even go where the bedrooms
are. He stays mostly in the kitchen or the basement.

Is this normal for cats that are getting older?

If you could reply to my email at Thanks!

Has he seen the vet lately? Is he thin, yet eating well? This last is a
classic symptom of hyperthyroidism, which is treatable & quite common in
older cats, for example. Bit it's just one of a slew of possibilities, &
doesn't address his change in behavior, not frequenting areas of the
house as he used to.

If he hasn't seen the vet recently, he needs an appt., IMO.

Cathy
