Most of our vitamins are coming from China
This is not exactly a new story, but I was watching W5 (our version of 60
minutes) last night and they were talking about the impossibility of buying foods without made in China content. One item they looked at was breakfast cereal; most companies did not track country of origin or would not admit COA. The only company that knew COA and would admit it was Kellogg. The one item that came from China was the vitamins in the cereals, apparently China now makes 90% of the Vitamin C in the world. They also spoke to one of our leading vitamin manufacturers and they won't use made in China product (except Vitamin C) where possible due to the scary quality control. Don't get me wrong I'm not China bashing, it's largely the American public's demand for cheap goods and the greed of the multinationals that have put us where we are. Once China gets it's act together they are going to eat our economic lunch, but it's a scary place in the short term. I doubt you can watch the video on the attached page if you're in the US, but try it anyway. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...1027?hub=WFive |
