Default Sergeant's 'Gold' : Okay for our cat?

PJ has been scratching lately, but I didn't know what brand of flea
treatment to get him. On the grocery run to Wal-Mart today, I found
they had 3 brands; Sergeant's regular and 'gold' varieties, Hartz
(nightmare stories), and another ("Nexxum" or something, about $7.00 ).

Is the Sergeant's Gold okay, or should I hunt around for Fronline or
Advantage?

Here's what Sergeant's has

Etofenprox...........................55.00%
Pyriproxyfen...........................2.20%
INERT INGREDIENTS......42.80%

Anything frightening there? I remember that it was pyrethrins that made
Hartz so dangerous and that they refuse to recognize the problem.

Any help you can offer, thanks alot
JM

Frontline or Advantage is only available by Rx from your vet.

It's just a good idea not to use OTC flea treatments on your
cat.

Thanks for responding, Sue.

No OTC...hmmm. I'd like to find less expensive places for *good* flea
control for PJ. Maybe the vet would write a prescription I could fill at
petmeds.com (or something like that).

Or from eBay (much more cheaply than any vet), or at pretty much ANY
online petcare drugstore...no rx required. The only thing I know of
that currently requires a prescription is Revolution, and that's
because of all the additional "miracle" stuff it cures. Online, you
can get Frontline and Advantage for not a whole lot more than the
dangerous grocery store crap.

I visited my vet's office yesterday to get some Frontline for the
dogs. They highly recommended Revolution over Frontline for *cats.*
Just FYI.
