what about "Soft Paws"?
"Karen Chuplis" wrote in message ... in article , P.D. at wrote on 7/13/03 10:02 AM: thanks for the info. I do have 2 rather large scratching posts now that have rope or something wrapped around them. They do use it quite often, but still go back to the couch sometimes. If i were you, I'd invest in a bunch of sticky paws sheets and put it on the new furniture. If from the beginning, these pieces are undesirable, they will focus on their trees and learn not to scratch the new furniutre. Karen |

Karen I have to report that I just bought a new leather sectional and not only do my cats not scratch it (yet) they don't even like to sit on it. They will sit on the floor next to it and though this may wear off (the newness) they still have an old recliner that I didn't dispose of (even if it looks ugly in the room now) they love to scratch the hell out of that. They definately know what is "theirs". |

. net... We are going to be moving into our new house next months, and as you can imagine we will have all new furniture there. I have 3 cats and they destroyed the furniture we had in our old place (scratched the crap out of the couch, etc). Besides using "Soft Paws" is there any other products that will help in keeping the cats away from the sofa's? I have tried training them, but they are stubborn. Thanks -- Steve In addition to what others have suggested, you might try just throwing an old sheet over the furniture the cats tend to scratch. When cats try to scratch on a sheet, their claws just get tangled in the fabric and they soon stop trying. The sheets also keep the fur cats shed from getting on the furniture. Bill |

"Sticky Paws" I swear by it!!! It's not a chemical, and it won't hurt your
furniture either. Or you can just use double sided tape or aluminum foil. -Mrs R "P.D." wrote in message . net...
