Default Two unhappy cats

Right now I have two unhappy cats.

Pickles has very long, very fine hair that mats easily, especially on her
belly. She also resists brushing mightily. Today I took her for her second
annual lion cut. She looks adorable and seems to be much more comfortable.
She is very affectionate, either thanking me because the mats are gone, or
maybe just because I brought her home.

However, the groomers gave her a bath, so she doesn't smell like Pickles.
And, of course, she doesn't look like Pickles. Every time she goes near
Waffles, he hisses or growls at her. He's unhappy because, as far as I'm
concerned, I took his sister away and brought home a strange cat. She's
unhappy because her brother is being mean to her.

I feel sorry for both of them.

Fortunately after a good lick and groom she will smell right.

Something more than petting one and then petting the other?

The suggested method is to use a wash cloth and rub one cat down with it.

Then rub the second cat with it. Then back again to the first cat.
Thus you transfer the scents to each cat. I've never had to try it, but
I have heard that it helps. Best wishes. MLB

Last year that took two or three days. I hope it doesn't take that long
this time. I had hopes today, when Waffles went toward her and sniffed
noses with her, but then he started growling. :-(

Thanks. I'll give it a try, but I'll have to be very sneaky. They don't
usually stand for much petting unless they're on my lap, and if I have
anything in my hand, they're likely to freak out and run. They were three
years old when I got them, and the person I got them from is, in her own
words, "not a cat person".

Did they have this problem the previous time Pickles got her lion cut?

I don't think I've ever seen a non-Persian cat with fur as thick as
hers. She's *very* stylish when groomed.

Yes, they did. It lasted for two or three days, as I recall.

Thank goodness you got them away from the "not a cat person" person! I'm
sure things will be back to normal in a day or two. Meanwile, it's Mission
Accomplished: you feel sorry for them
