Recipe for the Cats
I got into a deal last month that provides me with a box of food from Angel
Food Ministries each month. Well I found out yesterday that there isn't a whole lot of stuff in the box for someone whose main foods don't come from animals, so I'm finding ways to supplement the clowder's diet with home cooked meals! Here is today's recipe, which was an instant hit! 1 lb. package of ground turkey, steamed 1 cup instant oatmeal 1/4 brown rice flour 2 beaten eggs 1/4 cup grape seed oil 1 T tamari soy sauce 1/4 cup nutritional yeast 5 oz. can of commercial cat food Cook the oatmeal in the broth from steaming the ground turkey and add brown rice flour while still hot. In a large bowl, beat eggs and add oil, tamari, yeast and cat food. Fold in cooled turkey/cereal mixture and serve topped with spray-on kitty vitamins. Makes about 12 cat-sized portions. |

Two corrections:
The cat food is actually a 3.5-oz. can, not 5 oz. I think.... And I left out "cup" before brown rice flour |

It reminds me of some of the things I made for Betty in the last weeks of her life, when it was getting harder for her to eat. One good recipe was a can of albacore tuna, sauteed in butter and cream. The cream was easy for her to lick up, the butter gave her some more fat, and when she could, she could snap up the chunks of tuna. Leftovers would be reheated in a pan with garlic, basil, and white wine, then eaten by me on top of linguine. |
