118 dogs arrive in Indy for adoption

Hoosiers are opening up their homes and pockets to victims of
Hurricane Katrina.

On Thursday, more victims arrived -- 118 dogs left by or separated
from their owners fleeing the Gulf Coast hurricane.

The dogs were brought to Indiana in an air-conditioned truck that had
been driven south by a Hoosier animal rescue group.

"We feel as if there's a need to rescue these animals," said Pam
Murphy of Paws Away Rescue of Eaton, which is north of Muncie.

Her group picked up the dogs Tuesday at the Save a Pet animal shelter
at Dothan, Ala., where several animal rescue groups had brought them
from the disaster area.

Cats were not aboard for the trip to Indiana because their presence on
the truck might have caused additional stress on the dogs, Murphy
said.

I do hope that the kitties are coming in another trip. I think I'll
