TNR coming up

My neighbor Serene, who has five cats, calls me over and introduces me
to Venus, a nice young lady who stopped by to chat. Seems that Venus
wants to do something about the cats around her part of the
neighborhood. So I tell her about Neighborhood Cats and the classes
they give in doing TNR, and she and her boyfriend took them and are
ready to TNR their block. I'm to help out because I've done it before
but they are doing most of the heavy hitting.

We talked to the main guy who feeds the cats and lets them live around
his house. Of course Venus also feeds some of them and a few other
neighbors are known to offer food, so we are working on coordinating
the project. If you haven't done TNR before, the idea is that you all
have to stop feeding for at least a day so the cats are good and
hungry and will enter the traps. If they aren't hungry, even stinky
tuna water won't entice them into the traps.

One complication is that there is a mother with several month old
kittens. The guy says that they are first starting to eat solid food
but they're too young to be neutered and we can't take the mother away
for five days without taking the kittens. We're not sure what to do
about that; any suggestions will be welcome. I suppose we could turn
them into a shelter and get them adopted.

It's looking like we'll have around 10 cats sometime in the middle of
October. That's the earliest we could get ASPCA appointments.

Going to be a busy month.
