Duffy is getting eye medication
Isn't this ironic? My little Duffy is blind, but he has developed an
eye allergy that causes drainage. Unlike many blind cats, he has never had to have his eyes removed or sewn shut. Fortunately, the allergy does not seem to bother him, but he has a prescription to have two drops in each eye twice a day. He really struggles when I give him the drops, so I am paying a vet tech to come to the house twice a day and administer the drops while I hold him. We hope he will only need the drops for about 10 days. MaryL |

You're in the exact position as Rita with Lennie, she's can't medicate him either. But luckily they have me;-) If she paid to have him taken out for a walk from a professional dog walker, it cost 8 pounds for a 30 minute walk. If she paid me as a vet tech to administer his meds and oversee his health, I don't know what that would cost.. but I do it for free. I'm not a vet tech, but have had many dogs and am very experienced with what can go wrong with their health and administering meds to a reluctant dog. However, I cannot medicate cats. Boyfie has to have liquid stuff to shoot into the side of his mouth otherwise, if its a tablet he has to go the vets. It's so annoying because he flattens himself on the table there and it's so easy. Not so at home. He knows immediately if there is any medication coming and disappears into the garden. I try to do it craftily but I think he can smell it. Tweed |

Tweed I can stop medicating Duffy's eyes now. The vet tech told me that our vet planned to stop by this evening and check his eyes this evening. He did come to the house a few minutes ago so I would not need to take Duffy to the clinic, and he said the eyes look fine now. I think it's unusual for a vet to come to the house without charging a fee, and I feel very fortunate to have had this vet for many years. He is a very knowledgeable and caring person. Incidentally, Duffy does not go into hiding when he sees medication, but he does struggle intensely. Fortunately for me, I hold him while Cindy medicates, but Duffy keeps his claws in and has never scratched me. Likewise, Rita and Lennie are very fortunate to have you. It would cost a fortune to get that kind of care if she had to pay for it. MaryL |
