Pooing in the bath
Boyfie has done this three times in his life. First time was when he could
not get out, second time was Christmas Day when he well annoyed with me, third time huge snow. It's easy to clean up but why does he not use the litter box in the bathroom near the bath? It's a nice lb,with earth and leaves in in a quiet place but somehow he will not use it. If he is desperate he uses the bath. I never tell him off about it but I wonder why he can't use the litter box a few feet away. The litter box is there for bad weather, continuous rain or snow if he cannot go out. He just refuses to use it. He would rather go out into a blizzard. (but not into 5 inches of snow) Tweed |

Both appreciated a clean litter pan. When I was feeding 13 feral cats, they immediately used the litter pan, even the little kittens. When (and if) you try it, Pick up the cat and place him in the pan, push his bottom into a sitting position and help him scratch the litter . with a paw. Give him privacy and a place where he feels secure. (Be positive!)MLB |

Boyfie apparently rejects the box you have even though you have basically emulated the "outdoors." As you know, our cats have their own minds and it seems that Boyfie has made up his mind that he does not want the box of earth and leaves that you have provided. I have never had a cat that rejected kitty litter. If he does not head for it on his own, place him in it to "introduce" him, and gently work one of his paws into the litter. That should be all he needs. MaryL |

He's smart enough to know those things don't belong in your bathroom. Jill |

It is not possible to pick him up. I tried it when he was on my lap this afternoon and he ran off. He would not allow me, ever, to pick him up and press his bottom into a litter box. It would freak him out. He does have privacy with his litter box - he chooses not to use one. Why, I don't know. He could not find somewhere outside, 4 inches of snow and frozen ground and he had to go. The bath was the best place. Tweed |

He does not want to use a litterbox for whatever reason. I dont know where he came from. If he is desperate the bath is the way to go. Imagine your toilet was gone. as his is. |

BTW, I've been on camping trips where I had to poop in a hole in the ground in the woods. I'd have preferred a litter box Jill |

I don't expect him to go out into 4 inches of snow. It is very easy to clean up with tp and put down the toilet. It was so cold my bath would not drain. as the pipes outside are frozen. It's a bit nippy here. |

It's a bit nippy here. It's been a few years since I lived in an area where pipes were in danger of freezing. But I recall leaving faucets dripping and wrapping pipes at the joists between the inside and the outside and under sinks to help keep them from freezing. Jill |

I can only do my best but he says no. I've tried everything known to womankind in that box for emergencies and still he says no. It's up to him. He can choose his lb or go out into the snow - or poo in the bath. why oh why will he not use a litterbox? there was one near him when he used the bath. It's difficult not get cross with him when he has a litterbox in the bathroom and chooses to ignore it and poo in the bath. When the snow goes away, I will mention it to him if he does it again. That will be enough. If I point out any faults to him, he nearly dies. So I prefer not to. if I can avoid it. He is extremely sensitive. Tweed |
