Yeah, I just recently re-covered our old scratching post with
some second hand carpet that one of my neighbours was throwing
out. Once I'd got the old carpet off the post it was pretty easy
to staple the new stuff on. Getting the old carpet off was a bit
awkward though, as some bits had been glued on. If I did it
again I'd just staple the new carpet right over the old stuff if
it won't come off easily.

Thanks for the tips guys. I thought about rewrapping it with
sisal, and might still do that. I like the idea of one of those
really cool condo/tower/scoopy bed cat trees to take the place of
this one in the living room since its the most used room in the
house and they are always wherever I am.

These guys get the zoomies and I've seen them almost pull this one
down and it must weigh at least 100 pounds, and most of the weight
at the base! Now that Rhett is bigger than Shamrock (yes, Karen, he
is HUGE! More evidence that his genes contain some Bengal!!) they
both charge across the room and dive for the tree! It's hysterical!
I think I'd like to get/buy/make something like what Catnipped has
for her kitties.

Fifteen pounds??? That's about 6.8 kilograms! My goodness, Frank
weighs about 5 kg (11 lbs). Nikki is 3.9 (c. 8.5 lbs). They
really do grow them bigger in the US! I weighed Mere on my
kitchen scales the other day, and it showed 1940 grams (c. 4.2
pounds), but I doubt that she actually weighs that much. It was
hard to keep her still on the scales. ;o) My niece says she was
1.5 kg when she last weighed her.

Awwww Well, Scarlett is still really tiny. Though, she's
loooooong. She probably weighs around 7 lbs (~3kg) now, maybe a
little less.

Rhett is one of those cats who is all muscle. He has very defined
hips and a very broad chest, long legs, a long neck and the length
of his body is long compared to Shamrock. Oh, and a very long tail.
He's just, um, long. lol

I bet you WERE hot! Yikes. Very pretty though. (I think I sent a
blank post. Did I send a blank post?)

Lovely dress, but doesn't look very comfortable. P

It wasn't comfortable, and it was very hot. It had puffy sleeves
and the elastic around my arms was bugging me all day. And even
though I'm relatively tall (5'8") I kept stepping on the lace hem.
Stairs were tough. Even though it was fun, I'm glad these costume
things don't come up often (except for Halloween!!! I LOVE
Halloween!)

I still think covering a heavy bookcase in carpet would be great. Or, a
freind of my took the back part of an old upright piano and turned it into a
bookcase. You could find one of those and put in shelves with holes and
carpet the whole thing up!

I think the ultimate scratching post/cat tree would be a burlap-type
covered couch with a chair mounted on top of it on a sturdy sisal-
covered pole.
