In om,
Ann Martin composed with style:

If anyone else on this list has any
questions I'll be happy to address them but as far as you are
concerned I ramble as you like but I won't respond.

In your research, have you come across any of the common illnesses
resulting from use of meat meal du jour? I'm really interesting in
finding out why so many of my cats lately have both gastric problems
or autoimmune problems?

Cheryl, up until 14 years ago I fed my dogs and cats commercial pet
foods and it seemed I had one of them at the vets every week or two.
My one cat suffered from bladder stones and was on a prescription
diet. He had been on this over two years and was not improving. When
I put my other pets on a homemade diet I decided I had nothing to lose
if I put him on the same diet. He has not had an attack since and he
is now 28 years old. My other two cats, ages 11 and 12 have never
eaten commercial foods and I have had only one trip to the vet with
one of them and that was because he had a fur ball.

Because of the illness of my two dogs, and on the suggestion of our
vet, I had the "premium" food they were on tested. It was shown to
contain twenty-five heavy metals, including arsenic, and levels of
mycotoxins which are found in moldy grains.

As for regulations in the US, our power companies aren't even
regulated by the government so it's interesting to see how many people
think pet food is just because it *should* be.

You're right. I've been in contact with every government department
that might have any involvement at all in this industry and NONE
regulate the ingredients used in these foods. Labeling text is the
only thing regulated. If the food says it contains 25 % protein, it
must contain that amount. The source of that protein does not matter
nor do the sources of carbohydrates or fats or anything else used in
these foods. Years ago I heard it stated that you could use a leather
shoe, sawdust, and crankshaft oil, and come up with the amounts of
protein, carbs, and fats found in pet food.

Good luck with your cats.

Maybe it's more important to sell books

And maybe you should check *your* math before making such nasty
allegations. Your calculations are wrong and you owe Ms. Martin an
apology.

What are you, the ng cop? If you are going to go around telling people

to make
apologies, you should start w/ yourself.

Why should Megan apologize to you or anyone else, she has nothing to
apologize for. Seems you persist in sticking your nose into
discussions that don't involve you at all and you have nothing to
contribute but nasty remarks especially if they don't coincide with
your jaded views.

I've been following this thread along in a casual sort of way, reading back
& forth. It's Usenet, not a private discussion, & therefore anyone can post
at any point in a thread (such as I'm doing now).

As for jaded views... From what you've posted in this thread, you have a(n
extremely) jaded viewpoint, the topic(s) under discussion/debate.

My "jaded viewpoint," comes from over 14 years of research. I have
provided all the answers this person has requested and yet they have
chosen the make statements with no backup whatever. That person can go
on posting but I have chosen not to reply to his ramblings.

Ann really good to hear about the diet and it working so well, do you use a
teaspoon of bran each day? Have read that stops hairballs....... I did
notice you only had a hairball problem once might I add?

You are making an assumption (lot of that when it comes to this
topic) that the entire carcasses were going to be thrown into some
imaginary vat mixing up ingredients for pet food. Were 100% of the
carcasses diseased? We don't know. Were only the good parts going
to be used? We don't know.

huge snip

You only needed to thank me for refreshing your memory of the purpose
of the article being posted. See? No dogs and cats mentioned in that
article.

But care to answer the allegations that "diseased" carcasses were going to be
used in pet foods?

You should work on your reading skills. NO WHERE DID I STATE THAT
THAT TRUCK CONTAINED DEAD DOGS AND CATS. I was pointing out to you,
who apparently could not read that this was NOT an urban ledgend as
your suggest.

Quit being so defensive, Ann. It is an urban legend going back many years. In
fact, the story was on Newschannel 8 in Nov. of 2002 here in the Portland area.
That footage had been floating around the country for some time. It just so
happens that this incident was completely separate from what I was mentioning.
That's why I was skeptical at first. As for the date, I wasn't implying that
THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT happened years ago. The story of the truck w/ dead
dogs and cats in it that "spilled" onto the roadway that is supposedly "proof"
that dead dogs and cats are in pet food is what I was referencing as the urban
legend (which is several years old).

You could not even find the date on the article let
alone the fact that this truck with all the rotten material was going
to a pet food company. Geez, perhaps they lied about that.

I never said that I couldn't find the date on the story--it was right at the
top. Again, you are assuming once again.

Again...that is ONE example. You would have folks believe that it happens

all
the time, every day. Purina is one example. Fine--don't buy their foods.

But
what other companies are the big offenders and actually do what you

allege??
Hmmm? If it is such a widespread practice, then surely you should be able

to
name many more companies that do this on a regular basis. And in case you
haven't read Megan's posts--according to her you are supposed to provide

all of
the documentation yourself. Didn't you see what she had to say?

I guess you still don't see fit to answer this one.
