Miracle - Star
HI the
I had just worked myself up into total despair, checked my blackberry in the car - no messages - came in the house - new message from my friend James. I had called James first because he helped rehome another cat about 12 years ago so I associated him with this kind of problem. He knows a zillion people and is a marvellous person. The email said: Sarah, the woman who works for me, will take the cat - when will he be ready? Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! So, I'm taking the kids with me (they have the day off) and I'm taking pictures to send to her. I'll post them on my website. I'm sure it was your purrs and prayers yet again. Thank you all. Happy for Star and for you and for Sarah.
I hope this is the piece of the puzzle of all you have going on that helps the others to fall into place. Purrs for a gentle and soothing weekend for you all. Jo "Susan M" wrote in message ... So, I'm taking the kids with me (they have the day off) and I'm taking pictures to send to her. I'll post them on my website. Well, we went to the SPCA and paid up for the little boy. As they were asking me the questions, I started to get worried because I didn't know much about this person. I was just so euphoric about the news that I didn't do any other fact checking. Such as, does she own her own place - with less than 1% vacancy in the city, landlords don't have to let you have animals. Also, does she have kids etc... This time in the visiting room, he was less friendly. I had one of the children in with me at a time not to overwhelm him but the HVAC system kept coming on with this horrendous whirr and stressing him - and dogs were barking and such. It's been a few weeks in a tough environment and he was preoccupied with wanting to get out the door and away. So, I phoned James on the way home and she lives in an apartment but has cleared this with her landlord. I hope she has a bit of patience because she will need it. I hope this doesn't fall through or I end up with him back. His surgery will be the 23rd and so, next wednesday, he comes home. Susan M Otis and Chester |

Susan M Otis and Chester I know your heart is in the right place and hopefully this will work out, but I think it would be wise to take the time between Star's being fixed and going home to interview this woman and make sure this is the "right" home for him. Adoptions done in a hurry don't always end up good and better to find out if this is right for him *before* he goes there rather than after when it is too late to do anything about it. Things you will want to ask her a 1. will he be kept indoors (that should be an absolute yes) 2. does she declaw (that should immediately end her chance for this lovely boy) 3. will she feed him a proper diet of canned food ( dry food is not good for cats and causes many health issues- see www.catinfo.org for more) 4. how many children does she have and are they gentle with animals 5. can she afford appropriate vet care 6. etc., etc. I know you are stressed and have a lot on your plate. I certainly don't want to add to that, but at the same time it is important that, for Star's sake, you don't settle for anything less than a stellar home and if this one is not it, it only means the great one is on the horizon. Believe me when I say that it takes true committment and patience to find a cat a "great" home, but if that is what you decide will happen and don't settle for less, it WILL happen. |

Both for Star and for Susan and her family. You beat me to it, Jo. I don't think Star can afford the luxury of a perfect home, when he's in such danger of being put down. I would be most concerned with questions #2 (declaw) and #5 (able to afford vet care). I'd only care about #4 (children) if the kids were really nasty. But given the circumstances, I wouldn't even consider asking about the others. She can also ask James for his opinion. If he knows this woman fairly well, he might be able to make a reasonable assessment. Joyce -- To send email to this address, remove the triple-X from my user name. |
