Fungus is home....

I collected Fungus Ferret this morning. ) He was neutered, microchipped and vaccinated yesterday and came through surgery very successfully and the RSPCA Instector came over last night so that I could fill out the adoption paperwork. Don't get me started on the Inspectors attitude to my *fat collie* (quote: "your dog is rather fond of her grub I'd guess - have you thought about putting her on a diet?" - my reply, "yes it's being supervised by the vet that put *you* in touch with *me* in the first place to adopt one of *your* animals that *you* were going to PTS" ), my *thin* elderly ginger cat (quote "This chap seems a bit thin, does he have health issues?" - my reply, "yes, he's on Fortekor for kidney disease and being monitored by a feline specialist vet - you know, the one who consults for Bristol vet school and he's monitored on a monthly basis") and the fact that I have *so many* animals (9) - (quote: "how can I afford them?" - umm.... that would be because I work for a living and don't have human kids and don't drink or smoke.....) So anyway, I met Fungus this morning at the vets. Fungus is a cream ferret with black eyes and black guard hairs - he looks like he's been stained with nicotine!! Photos soon, I promise! Anyway... so that I could introduce Fungus to Barney and Gertie successfully, I put him in a cat carrier and placed it next to Gertie and Barney in their cat carrier whilst I scrubbed out their hutch with enzyme cleaner and soap and water and replaced all the bedding with clean stuff. Then I gave them all a bath so that everyone smelled the same and put them all in a large box filled with towels so that they could dry off and I could supervise carefully.... After play-time (escaping from the box and running around my lounge for an hour) I put them back in their cage. Everyone is asleep in a ferrety heap in their bedding and you'd think the 3 of them had been together for ever. There was a bit of squabbling as Fungus tried to drag both Gertie and Barney around by their scruff initally, but it was soon quickly resolved and then they started to play. ) Fungus is very thin and needs to put on some serious weight, but as a whole he is friendly, affable and he's going to be a handsome boy when he fills out and his coat improves. So thanks for the purrs.....ferret math has struck again! Helen M I'm so glad that Fungus has settled in well I can't get over what an arrogant prat that RSPCA guy is! I guess they've seen the worst and assume everyone out there are stupid or irresponsible. Dewi |
