I hear that Lee:/
Being broke sucks!!
This 'might' make you laugh
You know you're Baroque when you're out of Monet
No?
Well, I tried
Hug
Kyla
--too broke to 'pay attention'
"Stormmee"
that is MY definition of broke, here is how it works he
- money into checking;
-DH pays bills;
-balance is remaining;
-when balance is gone we are broke.

meaning NO barrowing or plastic, sometimes like in June I buy the least
groceries possible because the vet gets everything,

LOL - agreed. I guess different people have very different ideas of
what constitutes "broke"...

Dunno where Pam & Co.
are exactly in NC but gas gallon price seems to be slightly higher in
NC than here
in MileHigh. A fill-up of a 16-gallon
tank (my vehicle's capacity) is just about $10-15 short of one night's
lodging
in a decent motel/hotel there (excluding beachside). I doubt seriously
that
spa services - probably as common in TX as offered in my home state -
the
epitome of decadent vacation destinations, FL - are all over the place
in NC
lodgings, but maybe in the pricier places they are.
Correction: possibly Vegas could vie with FL as "epitome" destination
from
what I read lately, but Nevada seems to be hit much harder in every
way by
current recession/foreclosure/gas crises. "Epitome" = toss-up.
My criticism of 'Nipped's suggestion of a short "getaway" for Pam &
Rob is
limited to "spa services" reference.....NC is noted for many good
things -
vinegar-based BBQ! Yumyum! for one - natural gemstones (*not*
diamonds)
in parks you can go to and "dig up your own" jewels (in rock
formations) -
but *not* as I know it "spas" and accompanying pampering, LOL. I think
'Nipped was just thinking of what *her* idea of a substitute fun thing
might
be.Yeah, we DO have different notions of when you're at "broke" re
financial resources. Here jokes abound, as well as on tv late-night
humorists,
that spending your "stimulus" may well be done at the gas pump,
especially
if you drive a big, gas-hog SUV that leads you to the pump lots more
often
than my 3.5L 6-cyl. single-cab light truck does....
It sounded absurd, Tweed, and you have no way of being aware of the
above,
but a short cheap "getaway" would be cheaper than the original
plan...and
our country - much much younger than yours - is not based, as yours
is, on
centuries of historical existence, but on small plastic cards we use
instead
of cash...LOLOLOL.

I have a good friend who is an excellent massage therapist. She would be
happy to give me a massage any time. I envy people who can enjoy it.

I've had a few massages, with her and with others, but I just really can't
seem to enjoy them.

I do call her and beg once in a while when I get a pinched nerve that just
won't release any other way.

Lori meant well, Tweed. Nope, weekend not happening. We used what was left
of the tax incentive to buy food for the humans. The owners were already
taken care of, as was the d-thing. The rest is sitting in the bank waiting
to pay for the cost and instillation of a new side mirror on the Tempo.
Besides, there is no way I'm showing my mutilated hind end to anyone.

Gas is currently $3.599 at the cheap stations. Cost $71.00 to fill up the
van at the beginning of the month. We're currently at between 1/4 and 1/2
tank on Vanessa. Mike is about the same, he thinks on the Tempo. I've
saved some cash to put into the tank. My MIL says that people need to get a
second mortgage on their houses just to pay for gas and food. I told her
fine, but what would we do the next month.

I suspect Tweed is a practical soul, like me---I've never had a spa
treatment *or*
a massage and wouldn't dream of it. (I don't like strangers touching
me anyway).
But I agree that what I think is a total waste of $$$ to me, might be
extremely
beneficial to someone else--both mentally & physically, or that's what
I hear
from friends.
Our kids have already advised us we are hopeless sticks in the mud as
far
as knowing how to have "fun."
I hear that our gasoline is even higher than yours in Mile-High, which
is absurd
since we are an oil & gas state. But people are *still* driving their
SUV's and
nobody wants to carpool. That might change when it goes over $5 a
gallon
as predicted. Or maybe not.

================

I got my first massage ever last September at the annual cancer retreat.
Clothes stayed on and the husband and wife team did their best with my
aching back. I get back pain a lot, but I would consider seeing a
chiropractor or getting a massage as a waste of money that could be used for
food or books (my big vice). Before Rob started getting shaky hands, I used
to have him do most of my hair cuts. He was pretty good. Since I don't
want a shag hair cut, I now let it grow out until I can't stand it, and then
go to my favorite place to get a cut. Tangles and Tips only charges me $25
for a clipping. I can live with about $50/year + tip.

One of the reasons we need Vanessa is that we often have more than four
people on a trip with us and it is cheaper to drive one mini van than two
cars.

I've never done a "spa" thing, either; I'm not high maintenance. I hear
massages and pedicures and the like are great but I doubt I'll ever bother
to find out. Besides, not one hotel I can think of that offers spa
services
costs less than $250/night and that *doesn't* include the spa services.
Forget about raiding the mini-bar!

Still, I take CN's post in the spirit it was intended - a suggestion for
Pam
& Rob to try to do some little something for themselves rather than
beating
themselves up about things.

Exactly. Thanks.

Pam S. who spent part of her tax rebate on people food.

I've let Ginger-Lyn down and Rob as well. We got our SS rebate in the
bank today. It was half what we were supposed to get. Worse, I'm in
the hole cash wise. So I checked out the account and there is a $950.67
withdrawal that I know nothing about. I'm going to see what is going
on, but in the mean time, I will not be able to travel with Rob and
Mandy to Ohio and take care of Ginger-Lyn's owners while she's in
hospital. It was only supposed to be for a day or two, but they were
important days.

We also won't be able to go to Ft Campbell as well so that Rob can visit
his old unit. This upsets me as much as not being able to help out
Ginger-Lyn. We also won't be able to travel into the Midwest and visit
Lee, Granby, and Dan. I feel like my world has tumbled into the ground
and there is nothing left to do.

Rob tried to cheer me up by saying that now we can go to the meet and
greet in Florida, but I don't think that is happening either. I'm so
depressed today.

Pam S. crying selfish tears

I could give you all sorts of 'maybe its for the best' or 'maybe this
trip wasn't meant to happen' advice.

But I'm still too busy sulking because I didn't get to go on a trip I had
planned in April. It wasn't so much missing the trip as it was not
having a real choice in the matter.

Just a few hours after I posted this, we got a email from one of the
couples who went on the cruise we missed.

Now I've never traveled with them so don't know if they are easy or
difficult to please. But some of his muttered comments about several
islands and central American countries not being a big loss if they sank
into the ocean has me thinking maybe I didn't miss all that much.

Still working on a day deep sea fishing, a wedding in Eastern Oregon, and a
September trip to San Antonio. I think I like the anticipation more than
that actual trips sometimes.

Pam S,

Oh, come on. Your behind can't be that bad. We'll go together. I've
had so many surgeries my belly button is now on my side. It looks
plain weird. I'll wear a 2-piece and create a diversion, so nobody
will even notice your bee-hind. LOL.
Or we can start our own freak show. I'll be the Amazing Assymetrical
Woman.

Nice. Those comments say a lot more about him than about the places.

join the deformity parade?
