Batting first for the Meow Chatters Number 8.25, Wascal, Number 8.25 "We all know that Wascal has betted against Missy before. He takes his crouched stance in the right-pawed batting box and awaits her southpaw delivery. It's her claw-ball and it ducks under his swing at the last moment: Strike One She gets the ball back and fires a fastpaw immediately, high and outside. Umpirre Amelia calls "bawl wun" and does not back down from Missy's glare. Missy fires another fast one and this one dives at Wascal's shins at the last moment. What a break on that sinker. Wascal checks his swing. Umpirre Amelia calls "bawl too" Wascal apparently guesses that another claw-ball is coming and letst it travel enough to gauge it and get his bat on it. It's a LONG line drive to Center Field. But Pookey gets a fine jump on it and makes a tremendous leaping catch at the wall. And the crowd goes wild. Wascal, who is almost to Second Base when the catch is made, tips his cap in admiration and returns to the dugout. Batting second for the Meow Chatters Number Pi, Ranger, Greycat Mahoney, Number Pi "Ranger takes the first pitch, a fastpaw that is a bit too far inside. Umpire Amelia calls "Bawl Wun." The next pitch is a clawball and Ranger pulls it hard down the foul line. The crowd waits to see if it is fair or foul but it is clearly foul and Ranger awaits the next delivery. Apparently Ranger was set for another clawbawl and he takes the next pitch, a fastpaw over the plate for strike two. The next pitch IS a clawball and Ranger grounds it toward third base. Sundance gets the ball on a short hop and throws it to Barbi who takes it for the second out. Batting third for the Meow Chatters Number 7, Chappy Number 7 "Missy seems to think that Chappy is a very aggressive hitter as she throws him a fastpaw that is well outside. Not only does Chappy swing but the bat connects. However, the ball just bloops out to short Left Field. It looks like it will fall between shortstop and the outfield but Lizzie Borden streaks out there and catches it on the fly. "Well that was a great half inning pardner. No scoring but lots of well-hit drives and sparkling defense." -- Will in New Haven |
