But then, I have been called a witch on more than one occasion ;-) Hee - black cats are da bomb! Actually, I've just seen some pics of ebony short-haired orientals and I Want One! (Wouldn't mind a cinnamon one, either) Saw the pics here : http://www.orientalsiamese.com/ They are pretty cool looking cats. I would love to have a black Sphynx, too, but will never buy a purebred. ;P -L. |

What kills me is the people who love to tell us of their cat's outdoor hunting expertise and insist that it is fine to let them roam, then come back and cry because they have been poisoned, hung themselves on a fence, or have had their guts ripped out by a dog. Or my sister. She lets her cats outside, and then wonders why she has to pay for emergency vet care. My cats do not go outside. That alone cuts my vet bills. Oh, man. You would think that she would have learned after the first injury. That's sad. |

I would do just about anything for my nephew (brother's son), but I'm not about to help my brother. What a creep. He stole from my parents and let his wife abuse my nephew. I have one of those. And a sister with a sense of entitlement that just will not quit. The first step toward getting nothing from me is to EXPECT something. (At least if you are over 18. My nieces and nephews are all shamelessly spoiled by me, but they are wonderful kids.) |

No, I didn't say that. I just know that when Grant got partially blocked, it
probably came to just over $300. It is a *common* ailment. It's an example of how easily one could spend 300.00 on a common kitty problem. If that is your limit you should, indeed, find a different kind of animal companion. Sorry, THAT I do believe. You don't say you can't afford it or are in someway unable to afford it, you simply won't go past it. That's ridiculous. "Glarb" wrote in message ... "Karen Chuplis" wrote in message Jeez. 300? a YEAR? One blockage and that would be that. If my cat got a "blockage," he would be euthanized. Period. $800 for that, you say? No way. G |

I'm not big on no win scenarios. There's usually always an alternative. Its just a matter of how far you're willing to go to find it. I'm willing to do whatever is necessary... but that's me. Phil Well, honestly, though, Phil, you have more resources than the "average" person. It's easy to find money when you are educated, What? I'm a street kid from the Bronx. I road to Orchard Beach in the summer hanging on the back bumpers of city buses because I didn't have money for the fare! True story. resourceful, blessed with more brains than most, and creative. The "average" American lacks most of those attributes. You forget 'class'! I have a lot of class... its all low, but I have a lot! LOL! The truth is that you use what you have and never say "die" until the bitter end. When I make a commitment, I'm prepared to do whatever is nessary to fulfill that commitment - whether I like what I have to or not. Excuses and reasons don't do much good for a sick cat. Yet some people feel exonerated from their obligation and responsibility as long as they can conjure up a good excuse. Phil It's a personality thing. And the only way to be an effective human in my book. |

Lyn, so far for Grant's hairball, for regular xrays, complete blood workup,
3 cans of a/d, a pill popper, exam and an upper GI series (barium x-rays), it has cost me $259.00. Is that a bargain or what. I am very lucky that I have an affordable vet (and still I hear people complain at the her office. When I do, I tell them what my mother's vet charges. Usually shuts them right up. For God's sakes they are at a cat specialists with years of experience JUST in cats who regular attends seminars and updates her knowledge and they complain about a 15.00 vet exam and 6 dollar shots. Yeesh. My mom can't get out of her vets office with just an exam without paying over 50.00.and they aren't specialists.) "-L." wrote in message oups.com... G I was in this quandry just over a year ago, with a hairball blockage. I had already spent $500 and didn't have any answers - the cat was at the vet and I was out of town. They wanted $800 for a barium x-ray and intestinal biopsy, and wanted to transfer him to an emergency vet because they couldn't handle him any more (he is a terrible patient) and it was a Sunday - on the phone the vet acted as if he was on death's door. I had a gut feeling it was a hairball based on my experience, and I wasn't going to have this particular cat go through surgery, so I came home, took him home from the vet (he seemed fine/perky to me by the way!) and took him to a feline specialist the next day. She agreed that waiting a few days and symptomatic care were an acceptable approach given that the cat really wasn't that sick. I nursed him, he passed the blockage, and he's fine and healthy still to this day. I think the first vet is one who will let you throw money at a situation needlessly. They are also the vet who misdiagnosed my dog, who is now terminal because they missed the diagnosis, so I have little faith that they know what they are doing. -L. |

Let me just take a wild guess: that would be a SINGLE parent, right? I know the answer, but why does it matter? I was wondering, too, but then I thought, I really don't want to know the train of thought that led to this station. -- Of course now I must tell you. While some women do indeed choose to be single parents, the vast majority would rather their child have a live-in Daddy and Mommy. Upon what do I base that? Well, usually having a child with someone implies that you kind of, erm, like them and want them to be around. Lynn strikes me as very unhappy, and did long before she admittedly netKKKopped me by getting her cowardly control freak buds (that would be you, Megan, among others) to complain to my old ISP. It is simple logic. Nasty? Perhaps. True? You bet. Anyway, if you object to my telling the truth as I see it, join the Censor Brigade and Complain to Bellsouth, where they, just like Roadrunner, do not yank accounts for telling nasty truths. Ha, ha, ha. |

: The whole issue of intelligence really bothers me. I mean, intelligence, creativity, all sorts of mental traits have a huge impact on how far we can get in life, but it's not because intelligent/creative/whatever people are "better" or that they are "more deserving." I agree with you on this. Intelligence is a matter of luck, pure and simple, and those who have it should feel grateful and lucky, and not look down on those who were not so blessed. I also think that kind-heartedness is more important than intelligence. --Catherine |
